This paper presents details of the SkySat-1 mission, which is first microsatellite-class commercial earth- observation system to generate sub-meter resolution panchromatic imagery, in addition 4-band pan-sharpened imagery. was built and launched for an order magnitude lower cost than similarly performing missions. The low-cost design enables deployment a large imaging constellation that can provide imagery with both high temporal spatial resolution. One key enabler mission simplifying...
We demonstrate a high dynamic range Josephson parametric amplifier (JPA) in which the active nonlinear element is implemented using an array of rf-SQUIDs. The device matched to 50 Ω environment with Klopfenstein-taper impedance transformer and achieves bandwidth 250–300 MHz input saturation powers up −95 dBm at 20 dB gain. A 54-qubit Sycamore processor was used benchmark these devices, providing calibration for readout power, estimation added noise, platform comparison against standard...
Hybrid Si/III-V, Fabry-Perot evanescent lasers are demonstrated, utilizing InGaAsP as the III-V gain material for first time to our knowledge. The lasing threshold current of 300-mum-long devices was low 24 mA, with a maximal single facet output power 4.2 mW at 15 degrees C. Longer achieved high 12.7 mW, slope efficiency 8.4%, and density 1 kA/cm2. Continuous wave laser operation obtained up 45 density, power, improve upon those previously reported having similar geometry. Facet images...
By using a dry etch chemistry which relies on the highly preferential etching of silicon, over that gallium (Ga), we show resist-free fabrication precision, high aspect ratio nanostructures and microstructures in silicon focused ion beam (FIB) an inductively coupled plasma reactive etcher (ICP-RIE). Silicon masks are patterned via Ga + implantation FIB then anisotropically etched ICP-RIE fluorinated chemistries. We determine critical areal density implanted layer required to achieve desired...
This paper describes the InP platforms for photonic integration and development on these of an optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) system local area networks. We demonstrate three building blocks this system: pulse source, encoder/decoder pair, a threshold detector. The source consists integrated colliding pulse-mode laser with nearly transform-limited 10 Gb/s pulses injection locking to external clock synchronization. pair is based arrayed waveguide gratings. Bit-error-rate...
Feature Issue on Optical Code Division Multiple AccessWe overview and summarize the progress of spectral phase encoded time spreading (SPECTS) optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) technology. Recent included a demonstration 320 Gbit/s(32-user×10 Gbit/s) all-optical passive network testbed based SPECTS O-CDMA technology theoretical prediction efficiency at 100% above. In particular, InP-based integrated photonics allows implementation transmitters receivers monolithically chip. The...
High-resolution three-dimensional (3-D) imaging (stereo imaging) by endoscopes in minimally invasive surgery, especially space-constrained applications such as brain is one of the most desired capabilities. Such capability exists at larger than 4-mm overall diameters. We report development a stereo endoscope maximum diameter, called Multiangle, Rear-Viewing Endoscopic Tool (MARVEL) that uses single-lens system with complementary multibandpass filter (CMBF) technology to achieve 3-D imaging....
Leakage of quantum information out computational states into higher energy represents a major challenge in the pursuit error correction (QEC). In QEC circuit, leakage builds over time and spreads through multi-qubit interactions. This leads to correlated errors that degrade exponential suppression logical with scale, challenging feasibility as path towards fault-tolerant computation. Here, we demonstrate execution distance-3 surface code distance-21 bit-flip on Sycamore processor where is...
We fabricated horizontal Si slot waveguides with a 25 nm SiO2 layer by bonding thin Si-on-insulator wafers. After removing the substrate and buried oxide from one side of bonded structure, grating-coupled ring resonators were partially etched into Si/SiO2/Si device layers. The gratings exhibit efficiencies up to 23% at 1550 measured have loaded quality factors near 42 000 for lowest-order transverse-electric mode, corresponding propagation loss 15 dB/cm. leaky transverse-magnetic mode was...
The authors demonstrate the fabrication of suspended nanowires and doubly clamped beams by using a focused ion beam implanted Ga etch mask followed an inductively coupled plasma reactive etching silicon. This method will how two-step, completely dry sequence can be tuned to generate nanomechanical structures on either silicon substrates or insulator (SOI). was used lateral between 2 μm scaled with lengths up 16 widths down 40 nm substrate. also fabricate 10 long SOIs that are 20 thick...
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is developing the Radiometer Atmospheric CubeSat Experiment (RACE), which consists of a water vapor radiometer integrated on 3 U platform. RACE will measure 2 channels off 183 GHz line, and be used to validate new low noise amplifier technology internal calibration methodology. advance readiness level (TRL) receiver subsystem from TRL 4 6 system 7.
Studies have shown that stereo images improve surgeons' visuomotor tasks and therefore constructively affect the outcome of a minimally invasive surgery. Stereo are captured by endoscope, which consists commonly duplicate lens systems. However, can also be single system following dual aperture scheme (DAS). DAS creates two spatially separated optical channels placing plate in limiting system. This paper describes efforts to miniaturize DAS-based imaging for use To demonstrate feasibility,...
In an effort to miniaturize a 3D imaging system, we created two viewpoints in single objective lens camera. This was accomplished by placing pair of Complementary Multi-band Bandpass Filters (CMBFs) the aperture area. Two key characteristics about CMBFs are that passbands staggered so only one viewpoint is opened at time when light band matched passband illuminated, and positioned throughout visible spectrum, each can render color taking RGB spectral images. However, takes different image...
A 1-GHz hybrid mode-locked monolithic semiconductor laser on an InP platform is demonstrated. Monolithic integration of the 4.1 cm cavity with active quantum well and passive waveguide can be achieved 400 nm wide 3μm deeply etched mirrors.
There are many advantages to minimally invasive surgery (MIS). An endoscope is the optical system of choice by surgeon for MIS. The smaller incision or opening made perform surgery, needed. For neurological and skull base surgeries openings typically 10-mm in diameter (dime sized) less. largest outside (OD) used 4mm. A significant drawback endoscopic MIS that it only provides a monocular view surgical site thereby lacking depth information surgeon. stereo would provide instantaneous...
Using high quality, anisotropically etched Si waveguides bonded to InGaAsP, the authors demonstrate a hybrid laser, whose optical profile overlaps both and III-V regions. Continuous wave laser operation was obtained up 45°C, with single facet power as 12.7mW at 15°C. Planar resonators Q=4.8×106 are also demonstrated. By using SF6∕C4F8 reactive ion etch, followed by H2SO4∕HF surface treatment oxygen plasma oxide, losses due waveguide bonding interface minimized. Changes of confinement in...

The instrument design and performance characterization are described then illustrated modeling experimental studies. micro-reactor's efficiency on affecting hydrolysis chemical bonds similar to those within large complex molecules was demonstrated: disaccharide—sucrose—was hydrolyzed completely under conditions. products the micro-reactor-facilitated were analyzed using...
