Using next-generation sequencing technology alone, we have successfully generated and assembled a draft sequence of the giant panda genome. The contigs (2.25 gigabases (Gb)) cover approximately 94% whole genome, remaining gaps (0.05 Gb) seem to contain carnivore-specific repeats tandem repeats. Comparisons with dog human showed that genome has lower divergence rate. assessment genes potentially underlying some its unique traits indicated bamboo diet might be more dependent on gut microbiome...

Abstract Background Oat ( Avena sativa L.) is a recognized health-food, and the contributions of its different candidate A-genome progenitor species remain inconclusive. Here, we report chloroplast genome sequences eleven species, to examine plastome evolutionary dynamics analyze phylogenetic relationships between oat congeneric wild related species. Results The genomes (size range 135,889–135,998 bp) share quadripartite structure, comprising large single copy (LSC; 80,014–80,132 bp), small...

Most, if not all, green plant (Virdiplantae) species including angiosperms and ferns are polyploids themselves or have ancient polyploid whole genome duplication signatures in their genomes. Polyploids only restricted to our major crop such as wheat, maize, potato the brassicas, but also occur frequently wild natural habitats. Polyploidy has thus been viewed a driver evolution, its influence on chromosome evolution at centre of many investigations. Mechanistic models newly structured genomes...

Due to global climate change, temperature stress has become one of the primary causes crop losses worldwide. Much progress been made in unraveling complex response mechanisms plants, particularly identification responsive protein-coding genes. Recently discovered microRNAs (miRNAs) and endogenous small-interfering RNAs (siRN As) have also demonstrated as important players plant response. Using high-throughput sequencing, many small RNAs, especially miRNAs, identified be triggered by cold or...

Everyday episodic memories involve linking together related events that are temporally separated. However, the mechanisms of forming this temporal association have remained unclear. Here, using astrocyte-specific manipulations, we show potentiating astrocyte Ca2+ signaling in hippocampal cornu ammonis 1 (CA1) enhances strength such association, parallel with long-term potentiation (LTP) enhancement temporoammonic pathway to CA1, whereas attenuation has opposite effect. Moreover, identify...
