Muscle development and lipid accumulation in muscle critically affect meat quality of livestock. However, the genetic factors underlying myofiber-type specification intramuscular fat (IMF) remain to be elucidated. Using two independent intercrosses between Western commercial breeds Korean native pigs (KNPs) a joint linkage-linkage disequilibrium analysis, we identified 488.1-kb region on porcine chromosome 12 that affects both reddish color (a*) IMF. In this critical region, only MYH3 gene,...

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic process that results in parent-of-origin effects on mammalian development and growth. Research genomic domesticated animals has lagged due to a primary focus orthologs of mouse human imprinted genes. This emphasis limited the discovery genes specific livestock. To identify pigs, we generated parthenogenetic porcine embryos alongside biparental normal embryos, then performed whole-genome bisulfite sequencing RNA these samples. In our analyses, discovered...

Abstract Background Meat quality traits are important in pig breeding programs, but they difficult to include a traditional selection program. Marker assisted (MAS) of meat is therefore interest programs and Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) analysis the key identifying markers that can be used MAS. In this study, Landrace Hampshire intercross backcross families were investigate traits. pigs commonly as sire line commercial breeding. We conducted a genome-wide linkage analysis to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) that influence meat quality-related traits in large F2 intercross between Landrace and Korean native pigs. Thirteen of the m. longissimus lumborum et thoracis were measured more than 830 progeny. All these animals genotyped with 173 microsatellite markers located throughout pig genome, GridQTL program based on least squares regression model was used perform QTL analysis. identified 23 significant eight...

Abstract Background Many studies have been performed to identify various genomic loci and genes associated with the meat quality in pigs. However, full genetic architecture of trait still remains unclear part because lack accurate identification related structural variations (SVs) which resulted from shortage target breeds, limitations sequencing data, incompleteness genome assemblies. The recent generation a new pig breed superior quality, called Nanchukmacdon, its chromosome-level assembly...

Jeju native pig (JNP) is an indigenous breed originating from Korea, characterized by short black hair, small stature, and superior meat quality compared with commercial breeds. This study investigated transcriptome differences in the Longissimus dorsi muscles of Landrace JNP pigs. Phenotypic analysis traits was performed on each breed, revealing significant cooking loss, crude fat, moisture, lightness, redness, shear force, pH, hardness, gumminess, chewiness (p < 0.05). exhibited...

Abstract A subset of mammalian genes undergoes genomic imprinting, and parent-of-origin-dependent expression imprinted is required for normal development. Although around 40 have been documented in pigs, more detailed investigations into domains are needed to uncover the imprinting uncharacterized porcine long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Our study objectives were investigate status orthologous MIMT1 lncRNA transcripts which remains unidentified, explore their allelic multiple tissues...

Myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms consist of Myh7, Myh2, Myh1, and Myh4, which are expressed in skeletal muscle tissues during postnatal development. These genes influence the contraction–relaxation activity muscles involved determining composition such as proportion fast-to-slow and/or slow-to-fast fiber types. Among them, Myh1 is associated with contraction both transition. However, transition mechanism not well understood. For this study, we first produced porcine transgenic (TG) mice to...

Meningocele and meningoencephalocele of the skull are congenital deformities. Various species, such as pigs, dogs, cats, susceptible to meningocele incidence is higher in large white landrace pigs. In this study, swelling was observed fontanel areas median planes cap two female piglets same litter. Gross clinical examination, neurological computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were conducted on symptomatic piglets. The gross examinations revealed no specific findings,...

Abstract Background Aside from single nucleotide polymorphisms, copy number variations (CNVs) are the most important factors in susceptibility to genetic disorders because they affect expression levels of genes. In previous studies, pyrosequencing, mini-sequencing, real-time PCR, invader assays and other techniques have been used detect CNVs. However, higher a genome, more difficult it is resolve copies, so accurate method for measuring CNVs assigning genotype needed. Results PCR followed by...
