Significance Divergent lineages can respond to common environmental factors through convergent processes involving shared genomic components or pathways, but the molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we provide resources and insights into evolution of mammalian adapting aquatic life. Our data suggest evolution, for example, in association with thermoregulation genes associated a surface heat barrier ( NFIA ) internal exchange SEMA3E ). Combined support previous reports showing...

We report a novel nanocrystals (NCs) sorbent, which shows an extraordinary adsorption capacity to aqueous Hg2+ based on cation exchange and allows for the utmost removal of mercury from water. The NCs sorbent was synthesized by direct coating ZnS surface α-Al2O3 nanoparticles. as-prepared can efficiently remove over 99.9% in 1 min, lower concentration 297.5 mg/L (ppm) below 1.0 μg/L (ppb) within 5 min. saturated is about 2000 mg/g, close theoretic capacity. mechanism influences pH value...

Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) is increasingly being adopted as a non-invasive method for the assessment of ocean ecological dynamics. PAM an important sampling approach acquiring critical information about marine mammals, especially in areas where data are lacking and evaluations threats vulnerable populations required. Beibu Gulf’s (BBG) Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins present both a genetic differentiation and phenotypical differences from conspecifics other areas of the South China Sea. Given recent urbanization industrialization in southern China, BBG warrant conservation attention. However, this population’s demographic trend is unclear, making it hard to take measures. To assess population status BBG, photo-identification surveys were conducted between 2015 2019 inshore region surrounding Dafeng River...

Studies on the distribution and habitat characteristics of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) indicate a general preference toward estuarine environments. However, quantitative connections between this are seldom investigated. Distribution in northern Beibu Gulf, China, was evaluated through systematically designed surveys compared to oceanographic from on-board measured remotely sensed variables. The dolphins' core zone, by 50% kernel density estimate (50% KDE), confined...

Abstract Indo‐Pacific humpback dolphins ( Sousa chinensis ) inhabit shallow coastal waters of the region including southeast China, with at least 6 putative populations identified to date in Chinese waters. However, connectivity among these has not yet been fully investigated. In present study, we compared and cross‐matched photographic catalogs individual collected Pearl River Delta region, Leizhou Bay, Sanniang southwest Hainan Island, a total 3158 individuals, found no re‐sighting 4 study...

Dugongs ( Dugong dugon ) experienced a serious population decline in China during the twentieth century, and their regional status is poorly understood. To determine current distribution status, we conducted large-scale interview survey of marine resource users across four Chinese provinces reviewed all available historical data covering past dugongs waters. Only 5% 788 respondents reported dugong sightings, with mean last-sighting date 23 years earlier, only three sightings from within 5...

Abstract Humpback dolphins ( Sousa spp.), throughout their distribution ranges, are often designated as flagship species for coastal ecosystem conservation. Most of the early research on humpback was carried out in Chinese waters, and last two decades, numerous studies have provided abundant conservation‐valuable findings.
