We collected 75 primary pulmonary carcinomas with pleomorphic, sarcomatoid, or sarcomatous elements to better define their clinical, histologic, and immunohistochemical profile. The patient's age ranged from 42 81 years (mean 65 years), the male-to-female ratio was 9.7:1. Sixty-nine patients (92%) were smokers. Cough hemoptysis most frequent presenting symptoms. Fifty-nine (65%) died of disease: only stage significantly predicts overall survival (p = 0.0273). Microscopically, based on WHO...

Pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a relatively uncommon, high-grade tumor sharing several features with small-cell lung (SCLC) but currently considered as variant of non-SCLC and accordingly treated poor results. Little known about the optimal therapy LCNEC possible therapeutic molecular targets. We reviewed 83 patients pure pulmonary to investigate their clinicopathologic features, strategy, immunohistochemical expression mutational status receptor tyrosine kinases...

Introduction Research has demonstrated that patients with insomnia are at an increased risk of experiencing suicidal ideation and/or making a suicide attempt. Objectives To evaluate the relation between and behaviour. Aims examine factors associated diagnosis in admitted to Emergency Department (ED) assessed by psychiatrist charge. Methods Participants were 843 consecutively ED Sant'Andrea Hospital Rome, January 2010 December 2011. All referred psychiatrist. A clinical interview based on...

We selected a 4-stain immunopanel including thyroid transcription factor (TTF)-1, cytokeratin (CK) 7, 34βE12, and CD56/neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) to subclassify series of 45 pulmonary large carcinomas (LCCs) on bronchial biopsy. All cases consisted tumor proliferation with abundant cytoplasm, vesicular nuclei, prominent nucleoli. Immunohistochemically, 27 tumors (60%) were subclassified as adenocarcinoma (TTF-1+/CK7+, 24; CK7+ only, 3), 10 (22%) squamous carcinoma (34βE12+ only), 4...

We tested 418 neoplasms along the whole spectrum of primary lung tumor histotypes for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and K-ras mutations. Clinicopathologic data from 154 patients undergoing treatment with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) were retrospectively studied. A scoring system assigning a score each positive or negative characteristic (+1, female sex, nonsmoking status, adenocarcinoma histotype, Asian ethnicity, mutation; -1, current smoker 0, male ex-smoker,...

Atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH) is considered the preinvasive lesion of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, and mutations EGFR, HER2, K-ras are involved in early stage lung adenocarcinoma carcinogenesis, also predicting clinical response to anti-EGFR small molecule inhibitors. We analyzed 18 cases primary with concomitant AAH foci from 13 patients for EGFR (exons 18-21), HER2 19-20), (exon 2) by direct sequencing polymerase chain reaction. Among mutated cases, concordant or related were...

Abstract Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic inflammatory index (SII) are prognostic factors in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Their predictive value for platinum-sensitivity their role recurrent EOC unknown. A total of 375 patients were retrospectively analyzed. The correlation between baseline NLR SII, platinum-free interval (PFI) according to first line bevacizumab treatment analyzed using logistic regression analyses adjusted patient characteristics. Subsequently SII...
