Abstract A 3-year-old girl with a large ductus arteriosus had increased pulmonary vascular resistance at cardiac catheterisation. Test occlusion of the Nit-Occlud PDA-R device and hyperoxia decreased arterial pressure to < 50% systemic level. The was closed same device. Two years later, an echocardiogram showed normal pressure.
Preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction increase cardiopulmonary disease risk for affected offspring occur more frequently at high-altitude (≥2500 m). Retrospective studies indicate that birth to a preeclampsia woman high altitude increases the of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in later life. This prospective study asked whether with or without exaggerated hypoxia impaired angiogenesis lung, leading neonatal circulation abnormalities infantile PH.
Abstract Highland populations suffer from significant infant mortality due to chronic ambient hypoxia, which increases the risk of congenital heart disease (CHD) and neonatal pulmonary hypertension. Neither prevalence these conditions nor effectiveness cardiac screening identify CHD or hypertension among neonates born at altitudes >4000 m in Bolivia has been reported. In a study 1033 newborns El Alto, (4510 m), we determined prolonged postnatal adaptation. We also tested accuracy tool...
Congenital heart disease (CHD) occurs at increased prevalence high altitude, but there may be a paradoxical later onset of the development Eisenmenger syndrome. We hypothesized that congenital patients altitude are protected from an early irreversible pulmonary hypertension. present ospective observational case series study, supported by PVRI grant, in La Paz, Bolivia, located 3600 m, who underwent surgery for CHD. 10 consecutive aged 5 to 29 years (mean 12) with left-to-right shunts and...
Background: Contemporary surgical approaches for Ebstein anomaly are based on a paradigm shift towards earlier surgery in order to avoid the deleterious effects of chronic right ventricular (RV) volume overload. In addition, RV dysfunction may worsen setting high altitude and, date, no results have been reported from setting. Methods: We herein present first postoperative patients who underwent cone reconstruction (with or without bi-directional Glenn anastomosis) Cochabamba, Bolivia (>...
Abstract Background Interventional closure of patent arterial duct has become an accepted alternative to surgical closure. Clinical trial with “Nit-Occlud ® PDA-R”. Methods and results To assess the safety efficacy device, we performed a prospective clinical study between June, 2009 December, 2010 in La Paz, Bolivia. In all, 29 – 22 female patients 7 male out 59 were selected on basis inclusion criteria. The procedures under sedation at age weight 5.7 years 22.7 kilograms, respectively, 4–6...
To assess the efficacy and safety of Nit-Occlud ASD-R (PFM S.R.L, La Paz, Bolivia) in percutaneous closure secundum atrial septal defects (ASD).Fifty-three consecutive patients with median age 11 years (range 3-67) mean weight 27.1 kg 13-75 kg), treated two cardiology centers between May 2007 March 2011.Mean fluoroscopy time was 14 minutes (5-53), procedure 70 (45-150), defect size, as measured by stop-flow technique, 17.8 mm (5.6-31), stent size implanted device 18 (6-28), which is 0.98...
