Purpose: To evaluate the morbidity between laparoscopic simple prostatectomy (LSP) and open (OSP) in management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Patients Methods: From January 2003 through 2008, 280 consecutive patients underwent adenomectomy either by an extraperitoneal transcapsular "Millin" approach (96 patients, 34.3%) or transvesical (184 65.7%). Medical therapy had failed all patients. Perioperative outcome data were recorded compared. Results: There was no significant difference...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term efficacy of prostate cancer control and complication rates, in elderly, after focal therapy with high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between June 1997 March 2000, patients localized were included into a protocol. Inclusion criteria were: PSA < 10 ng/mL, 3 positive biopsies only 1 lobe involved, clinical stage T2a, Gleason score 7 (3+4), negative CT scan bone scan. Hemi-ablation was performed Ablatherm(R) device. Survival, rates...

Background and Purpose: Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) represents a novel approach to abdominal surgery. Several applications have already been described. Drawbacks include limited range of motion need for articulated instruments. Robotic technology could overcome such technical difficulties. We report our experience with LESS radical prostatectomy (LESS-RP) in cadaver robot-assisted (LESS-RARP) human patient. Material Methods: Standard laparoscopic instruments (SLI) were used...

Rectourinary fistula is a devastating complication of rectal and genitourinary surgery. Spontaneous closure rarely successful failure in conservative management calls for surgical intervention. We present our experience with rectourinary repair using modified York-Mason technique. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records all 12 patients who underwent at institution between 1998 2008. developed 10 after radical prostatectomy 2 following high intensity focused ultrasound. Six were...
