Despite great enthusiasm towards immunotherapy, reliable biomarkers are still lacking. The importance of subsets based on human papillomavirus (HPV) status is supported by a growing body evidence. However, role other possible subgroups such as anatomic localization primary tumor remains controversial. Our objective was to investigate immune cell infiltrate and checkpoint inhibitor proteins in above-mentioned head neck cancer subsets. Archival samples 106 laryngeal, oropharyngeal,...

Abstract Purpose The presence of cervical lymph node metastases is one the most influential prognostic factors in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. management clinically N0 patients with cancer remains controversial: elective dissection has relatively high morbidity, adversely affecting quality life, however, abandoning known to compromise overall survival numerous primaries. purpose this study was evaluate accuracy conventional imaging modalities (CT, MRI, US) fine-needle aspiration...

This study aimed to determine the ability of multimodal evaluation with multiparametric 3T-MRI (MPMRI) and positron emission tomography - computed (PET/CT) detect cancer unknown primary origin (CUP) neck lymph node (LN) metastasis. The group comprised 38 retrospectively analysed consecutive patients LN metastasis in head (HN) region without known tumours (PTs). Statistical values FDG-PET/CT scans were evaluated. Of CUPs, conventional native T1-, T2-weighted STIR sequences detected 6 PTs....

The survival benefit with higher body mass index (BMI) of patients suffering from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is documented as BMI paradox. As the early re-nourishment high-risk determine survival, we searched for a nutritional status marker suitable everyday screening. Grouping based on 8th Edition TNM Classification, investigated first time candidate markers among TNM8 subgroups, including newly introduced p16 positive oropharyngeal cancer (OPSCC) patients.

Abstract Purpose Our aim was to determine whether perioperatively administered corticosteroid treatment has any beneficial effect on the outcome of stapes surgery, with special regard audiological results and early postoperative morbidity. Methods 84 CO 2 laser stapedotomies performed in our institute between 2013 2018 were included investigation. All cases underwent preoperative mid-term pure-tone audiometric evaluation. Vestibular complications also evaluated. The subdivided into two...

Objectives and Methods: Tumor dormancy resistance to cytotoxic agents are key limiting events in the treatment of malignant diseases. To determine whether both influenced by extracellular milieu which tumors reside, HT1080 human fibrosarcoma, MCF-7 breast carcinoma OSCORT osteosarcoma cell proliferation, viability, apoptosis cytoreductive-treatment-induced death were investigated presence or absence matrix (ECM). Results: ECM-adherent, but not...

Age-related hearing loss (ARHL), a sensorineural of multifactorial origin, increases its prevalence in aging societies. Besides aids and cochlear implants, there is no FDA approved efficient pharmacotherapy to either cure or prevent ARHL. We hypothesized that selegiline, an antiparkinsonian drug, could be promising candidate for the treatment due complex neuroprotective, antioxidant, antiapoptotic, dopaminergic neurotransmission enhancing effects. monitored by repeated Auditory Brainstem...

The administration of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) often leads to immune-related adverse events. However, their effect on auditory function is largely unexplored. Thorough preclinical studies have not been published yet, only sporadic cases and pharmacovigilance reports suggest significance. Here we investigated the anti-PD-1 antibody treatment (4 weeks, intraperitoneally, 200 μg/mouse, 3 times/week) hearing cochlear morphology in C57BL/6J mice. ICI did influence thresholds click or...

Introduction: Tenotomy of the tendon stapedius and tensor tympani (TT) muscles is a minimal-invasive surgical therapeutic procedure in Ménière's disease (MD). It has been assumed that TT medializes stapes into oval window, resulting changes perilymphatic pressures inner ear. By cutting tendons both middle ear muscles, they affect pressure dynamics by not augmenting this even further. Aim: The immediate long-term investigation effect muscle tenotomy on quality life patients suffering from...
