Structural connectivity (SC) of white matter (WM) and functional (FC) cortical regions undergo changes in normal aging. As WM tracts form the underlying anatomical architecture that connects within resting state networks (RSNs), it is intuitive to expect SC FC with age are correlated. Studies investigated relationship between aging rare, have mainly compared groups elderly younger subjects. The objectives this work were investigate linear across healthy adult lifespan, define relationships...
Although GABA has figured prominently in theories of migraine pathogenesis,1 brain levels this transmitter have not been directly measured migraineurs. This is importance since, migraine, neurophysiologic events account for hyperexcitability and subcortical disinhibition.2,3 Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) measures metabolites the human may map regional changes their levels.4 Accordingly, herein we used MRS to measure individuals with aura (MA), without (MO), controls. ###...
To assess the relationship between sodium signal intensity changes and oligemia, measured with perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI), in ischemic stroke patients.Nine patients (55 ± 13 years), four follow-up scans, underwent proton 4-32 hours after symptom onset. Relative was calculated as ratio of intensities core (identified hypertintense lesions on diffusion-weighted [DWI]) or putative penumbra (PWI-DWI mismatch) to contralateral homologous regions.Sodium increases were not correlated severity...
To report observations on the single and repeat use of dexamethasone (DEX) intravitreal implant (Ozurdex; Allergan, Inc, Irvine, CA) for treatment macular edema in patients with non-infectious posterior segment uveitis.A chart review 15 consecutive (25 eyes) was conducted. The primary outcome measure first subsequent implants central retinal thickness (CRT) spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (sdOCT). Secondary outcomes were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), time to implant,...
This study used oculomotor, cognitive, and multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures to assess for neurological abnormalities in current asymptomatic amateur Australian rules footballers (i.e., Australia's most participated collision sport) with a history of sports-related concussion (SRC). Participants were 15 male football players SRC greater than 6 months previously, sex-, age-, education-matched athlete control subjects that had no neurotrauma or participation sports....
Abstract The limited signal‐to‐noise ratio of triple‐quantum‐filtered MRI sodium is a major hurdle for its application clinically. Although it has been shown that short 90° radiofrequency pulses in combination with sufficiently long repetition time full T 1 recovery (labelled “standard” parameters) produce the maximum signal through triple‐quantum‐filter, and this work, simulation images agar phantoms human brain demonstrate use longer reduced (optimized parameters to accommodate more...
Purpose Sodium signal from ordered environments can be selectively detected using a double‐quantum magic angle (DQ‐MA) sequence. This study presents the first DQ‐MA sodium images of human brain and evaluates effect preparation time (τ) on signal. Theory Methods Three phantoms saline, agar gel, xanthan gum were used to test correct functioning Five healthy volunteers imaged with varying τ determine optimal time. acquired 1 or 2 averages nominal resolution 15 mm isotropic in 3.5 7 min,...
Background and purpose Patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) show evidence of cognitive impairment but the reason is not clear. Measurement microstructural changes in white matter (WM) using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) may be a useful outcome measure. We report WM DTI relationship neuropsychological performance cohort non-TIA subjects. Methods Ninety-five TIA subjects 51 were assessed batteries. Fractional anisotropy (FA) mean diffusivity (MD) maps generated measurements collected...
Background and Purpose— Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) demonstrates ischemic tissue with high sensitivity. Although low cerebral blood volume (CBV) is also used as a marker for infarction, the quantitative relationship between diffusion abnormalities CBV unknown. We tested hypothesis that would decrease proportionally to apparent coefficient in patients acute stroke thus could be surrogate parameter restriction. Methods— Perfusion-weighted imaging DWI was performed 54 within 28 hours of...
Patients with advanced-stage pancreatic cancer are typically burdened by many symptoms that impair functioning and worsen quality of life. We report an exceptional case a 73-year-old woman T4N1M0 adenocarcinoma the uncinate process pancreas who developed significant gastric outlet obstruction – uncommon yet potentially life-threatening complication disease progression. She progressive abdominal pain emesis, profound dilatation her stomach was detected on radiation therapy simulation CT scan...
Background Proteoglycan (PG) is a major component of the intervertebral disc extracellular matrix (ECM) that acts to hydrate nucleus. Early detection PG degradation valuable for both diagnosis and preclinical research degeneration (IVDD). Purpose To compare different MR techniques detecting early degradative changes in IVDD. Study Type: Prospective. Phantom/Specimen Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) phantom/bovine discs with papain injection human cadaveric discs. Field Strength/Sequences...
We report a case of Bartonella henselae neuroretinitis with significant disc and peripapillary edema, branch retinal artery occlusion without macula involvement well preserved central vision. A 15-year-old female presented loss vision over 4 weeks in the left eye. She had history cat exposure, but scratch, insect bite or conjunctivitis was not reported. An inferotemporal arcuate scotoma developed during acute phase persisted course follow-up.
Determining mechanisms of secondary stroke injury related to cerebral blood flow and the severity microvascular contributing edema blood-brain barrier breakdown will be critical for development adjuvant therapies revascularization treatment. To characterize heterogeneity ischemic lesion using quantitative T2 imaging along with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (DWI) within five hours treatment.Quantitative was acquired 5 h (baseline) at 24 (follow-up) treatment in 29 patients. Dynamic...

We report case of simultaneous anterior uveitis and orbital inflammation associated with zoledronate infusion in patient metastatic breast cancer. also performed literature search provide an up-to-date summary cases zoledronate-associated Methods This review. Literature (timeline 2010 2023) was using PubMed the team: (zoledronate) AND (uveitis OR...
