Six European National Measurement Institutes (NMIs) have joined forces within the Metrology Research Programme funded project NANOTRACE to develop next generation of optical interferometers having a target uncertainty 10 pm. These are needed for NMIs provide improved traceable dimensional metrology that can be disseminated wider nanotechnology community, thereby supporting growth in nanotechnology. Several approaches were followed order interferometers. This paper briefly describes different...
An imaging spectrometer based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer is presented. The scans the mirror distance up to contact and intensity modulated light signal transformed using Fourier Transform algorithm, as Michelson Spectrometers does. resulting instrument has advantage of compact, high numerical aperture, luminosity hyperspectral device. Theory operation described along with one experimental realization preliminary results.
A homodyne interferometer which exploits a multiple reflection arrangement between two quasi parallel mirrors to deliver multiplication factor is presented. The relative displacement of the causes more than 100-fold increment optical path, measured by optoelectronic circuitry. This leads proportional reduction errors associated with subdivision fringes, effect fringe nonlinearities, and opto-electronic noise. In particular electronic noise limit level 20 fm Hz−1/2 has been demonstrated....
In this paper we present a new hyperspectral imager based on Fabry-Perot interferometer with low reflectivity dielectric mirrors. This set-up has been validated by measuring hypercubes of scenes containing emitting bodies and reflective surfaces in the visible region compared success reference spectra. The system is mirrors which, respect to similar systems metallic mirrors, have lower losses at cost are available off-the-shelf. spectra calculation carried out Fourier transform algorithm...
A new goniometer for in situ spectro-directional measurements of the reflection and transmission properties individual leaves is presented. One diffuse five directional illumination angles can be chosen. multichannel spectrometer allows simultaneous detection scattered light at 80 viewing spectral range from 400 nm to 1000 nm.
Abstract We provide a survey on the joint European research project “GeoMetre”, which explores novel technologies and their inclusion to existing surveying strategies improve traceability of geodetic reference frames SI definition metre. This work includes development distance meters with range up 5 km, realisation optical multilateration systems for large structure monitoring at an operation 50 m beyond, strategy GNSS-based determination. Different methods refractivity compensation, based...
A novel realization of an optical pressure standard, alternative to Fabry-Perot cavity-based techniques, is presented. It based on the measurement refractive index a gas through unbalanced homodyne interferometer, designed have one its two arms formed by multi reflection double mirror assembly establish unbalance length larger than 6 m in compact setup. The paper illustrates most important steps concerning realization: estimate pressure-induced deformation temperature control at millikelvin...
A method to amplify the rotation angle of a mirror, based on multiple reflections between two quasi-parallel mirrors, is presented. The allows rotations fractions nanoradians be measured with simple setup. working principle, experimental setup, and results are
A Michelson interferometer based on an optical set-up allowing multiple reflection between two plane mirrors performs the multiplication of path by a factor N, proportionally increasing resolution measurement. almost orders magnitude has been demonstrated with simple set-up. The technique can be applied to any interferometric measurement where classical limits due fringe nonlinearities and quantum noise are issue. Applications in precision engineering, vibration analysis, nanometrology,...
We present a hyperspectral camera based on Fabry-Pérot interferometer designed to work in the UVA range (315-400 nm). The measured hypercube contains about 400 × pixels, for total of 160 000 spectra. Each spectrum has spectral resolution 5 nm at wavelength 315 nm. Spatial and discrimination capability been demonstrated by imaging target with five different ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes. Spectral is aiming sky observing features diffused solar light UV. A possible application...
At the angle metrology laboratory of Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRiM, formerly IMGC), an instrument to generate very small angles has been recently developed. It is a sine-bar generator based on elastic hinge and piezocapacitive device. The facility can be used calibrate precise measuring instruments (levels, autocollimators, etc) in range 120 µrad with uncertainty about 20 nrad sensitivity fractions nanoradian. working principle metrological characterization are presented.
A homodyne Michelson interferometer was developed to realize a dynamic vacuum standard. The measures variation in optical path due refractive index changes related the pressure of gas. measurement arm is formed by two quasi-parallel mirrors which act as multiplication set-up allow an increment and consequently sensitivity. interference signal detected high speed camera: starting from recorded pattern, quadrature regions are identified analyzed custom software obtain phase signals. The system...
A novel angle comparator has been built and tested at INRIM. The device is based on a double air bearing structure embedding continuously rotating encoder, which read by two heads: one fixed to the base of second upper moving part comparator. phase measurement between heads' signals proportional relative suspended them (and, therefore, upper, movable comparator). advantage this solution reduce encoder graduation errors cancel cyclic due interpolation lines. By using only pairs reading heads,...
Accurate measurements of long distances (in the order tens meters or more) are necessary in manufacturing processes large structures, as, for example, aerospace industry. In most demanding applications, goal is to achieve a relative accuracy 10-7 measurement (e.g., 1 µm over 10 m). This can be obtained with laser interferometers whose based on knowledge speed light, which, turn, depends temperature air. A thermometer sound air has been realized at INRIM. Its purpose along path interferometer...
The comparison of two methods measurement or instruments is addressed from a statistical point view. Several techniques for assessing the degree conformity between methods/instruments measuring same quantity are discussed and compared. Their application in framework angle measurements presented.
