Abstract Background Alpinia katsumadai (AK) extracts and fractions were tested for in vitro antiviral activities against influenza virus type A, specially human A/PR/8/34 (H1N1) avian A/Chicken/Korea/MS96/96 (H9N2), by means of time-of-addition experiments; pre-treatment, simultaneous treatment, post treatment. Results In pre-treatment assay, the AK did not show significant activity. During treatment one extract five designated as AK-1 to AK-3, AK-5, AK-10, AK-11 showed complete inhibition...

An effective strategy for preventing rabies consists of controlling in the host reservoir with vaccination. Rabies vaccine has proven to be most weapon coping this fatal viral zoonotic disease warm-blooded animals, including human. Natural infection an individual is always associated exposure rabid and duration clinical signs can vary from days months. The incubation period depends on site bite, severity injury, amount infecting virus at time exposure. mortality untreated cases humans 100%....

ABSTRACT Group A rotaviruses are a major cause of acute gastroenteritis in young children as well many domestic animals. The rotavirus genome is composed 11 segments double-stranded RNA and can undergo genetic reassortment during mixed infections, leading to progeny viruses with novel or atypical phenotypes. aim this study was determine if the bovine group strains KJ44 KJ75, isolated from clinically infected calves, share features obtained heterologous species. All genes sequences KJ75 were...

Rabies is one of the most fatal diseases, but it 100% preventable in animals by vaccination. In this study, we present epidemiological features of, and national preventive measures against, rabies Korea. Data related to population density raccoon dogs Korea were collected from Animal Plant Quarantine Agency, Korean Centers for Disease Control Prevention, National Institute Environmental Research. diagnosis was confirmed with a fluorescent antibody test using brain samples accordance...

Purpose:The first aim of this study was to develop a novel inactivated porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) vaccine using the recently isolated Korean PEDV QIAP1401 strain and evaluate its protective efficacy in growing pigs. The second determine optimum adjuvant formulation that induces protection against viral challenge.Materials Methods: To generate high titers infectious PEDV, isolate passaged Vero cells. The experimental vaccines were prepared from binary ethyleneimineinactivated...

Abstract Objective: To determine the influence of caregiver personality and other factors on burden family caregivers terminally ill cancer patients. Method: We investigated a wide range related to patient–family dyad in palliative care setting using cross-sectional design. Caregiver was assessed seven-item short version Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI–7). 10-item Big Five Inventory (BFI–10), which measures following five dimensions: extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism,...

By sequence and phylogenetic analyses, the 11 genomic segments of two bovine rotaviruses isolated from clinically infected calves were proven to be derived swine-like P[7]G5 genotype. This finding reinforced hypothesis that interspecies transmission completely heterologous strains can occur in nature.

Rabies virus (RABV), canine distemper (CDV), parvovirus type-2 (CPV-2), and influenza A (CIV) are important contagious pathogens in populations. To assess post-vaccination immunity against RABV, CDV CPV-2, serological evidence of exposure to military working dogs (MWDs) Korea, we tested blood samples 78 MWDs by fluorescent antibody neutralization (FAVN) for commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) CDV, CIV. Korean had high antibody-positive rates RABV (97.4%, ≥0.5...

Outbreaks of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) have resulted in significant economic losses the swine industry, and another PED outbreak occurred 2014 Korea.Isolating culturing virus (PEDV) allow investigations into its pathogenesis development vaccines diagnostic assays. In this study, we successfully isolated two PEDV isolates (QIAP1401 QIAP1402) from naturally infected piglets at Jeju-do, Korea.Viral propagation was confirmed Vero cells based on cytopathic effect, immunofluorescence assay,...

A new rabies vaccine for animals, including raccoon dogs, in Korea is needed to eradicate infection. In this study, we constructed two recombinant adenoviruses expressing the glycoprotein or nucleoprotein of virus (RABV). We then investigated safety and immunogenicity these strains depending on inoculation route. Recombinant (Ad-0910G) (Ad-0910N) were 293A cells using an adenoviral system. One-year-old dogs underwent intramuscular (IM) oral administration Ad-0910G Ad-0910N. Clinical symptoms...

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae causes porcine which is one of severe threats to the swine industry. In total, 54 strains were isolated from 443 pigs between 2012 and 2013 in Korea. Isolates classified into serotypes 1, 2, 5, 7, 12, unclassified by multiplex PCR. Genotypes isolates divided three groups according sequence omlA gene. The antimicrobial resistance rate serotype 1 was slightly higher than that 5. conclusion, block treat pleuropneumonia, it necessary conduct ongoing...
