Giardia lamblia is a pathogen transmitted by water and food that causes infection worldwide. genotypes are classified into 8 assemblages (A–H). Assemblages A B detected in humans, but they potentially zoonotic because infect other mammalian hosts. samples from 44 children was genotyped. Conserved fragments of the genes encoding β-giardin glutamate dehydrogenase were sequenced their alignment carried out with sequences deposited GenBank. As expected for Rio de Janeiro, majority related to...

Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by ingestion of water or food contaminated with cysts Giardia lamblia. Susceptibility higher in children and overall prevalence can reach up to 90% low-income areas, although outbreaks are also reported developed countries. Both parasite immune-mediated epithelial damage has been observed vitro animal models. However, whether enterocytes directly damaged during not entirely known. Our goal was identify plasma levels fatty acid binding protein...

In order to evaluate the potential zoonotic transmission of Giardia duodenalis, isolates from humans and dogs in Northwestern region São Paulo State, Brazil were characterized based on β-giardin gene. The samples analyzed by sequencing Nested-PCR products. A1 A2 subgenotypes detected human dogs. Cysts assemblage B, C D have not been found any studied. These results are consistent with view that giardiasis largest endemic should be seen as a single entity.

We report the case of a 32-year-old man from Rio de Janeiro, who was infected in Amazon region Brazil by Leishmania (Viannia) naiffi. Generally, patients with L. naiffi cutaneous leishmaniasis exhibit good therapeutic response to either pentavalent antimonials or pentamidine. However, after pentamidine treatment, this patient's infection evolved failure. To understand clinical outcome, we investigated presence RNA virus (LRV) parasites isolated lesion; herein, discuss possible association...

Intestinal parasite Giardia can affect children's physical development mainly stunting even in asymptomatic cases. The protozoa G. lamblia is divided into assemblages A-H. However, it still unclear whether clinical manifestations and pathogenesis may vary according to the infecting assemblage. To investigate influence differently of preschoolers from a community Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Anthropometric parameters were analysed children attending daycare centre stool samples obtained for...

Giardia lamblia is an intestinal protozoan subdivided into eight assemblages, labeled alphabetically from A to H. Assemblages A, B, and E infect humans can have a sympatric circulation. We investigated the assemblage recirculation in children living within high prevalence area of infection. One hundred ninety-four were evaluated 85 tested positive for by PCR. These infected individuals recruited, treated with metronidazole then reexamined infections at 20 40 days after treatment that...

Leishmania parasites carry a double-stranded RNA virus (Leishmania - LRV) that has been divided in LRV1 and LRV2.Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis clinical isolates were assessed order to determine LRV presence.Two-round polymerase chain reaction (PCR nested PCR) was performed detect or LRV2 L. Giardiasis is an infectious disease caused by Giardia duodenalis. The pro-drug metronidazole (MTZ) the first-line treatment for giardiasis. Parasite's proteins as pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR), ferredoxin (Fd), nitroreductase-1 (NR-1) and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) participate in MTZ activation. Here, we showed trophozoites long-term exposed to presented higher IC50 than controls, showing drug influenced parasite survival. That reduction MTZ's susceptibility does not seem be...

Cryptosporidium is one of the most important causes diarrhea in children less than 2 years age. In this study, we report frequency, risk factors and species detected by molecular diagnostic methods admitted to two public hospitals Maputo City, Mozambique.
