Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) persistently infects more than 90% of the human population and is etiologically linked to several B cell malignancies, including Burkitt lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin (HL), diffuse large (DLBCL). Despite its growth transforming properties, most immune-competent individuals control EBV infection throughout their lives. encodes various oncogenes, 6 latency-associated EBV-encoded nuclear antigens, only EBNA3B completely dispensable for transformation in vitro. Here, we report...

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) are a group of diseases that range from benign polyclonal to malignant monoclonal lymphoid proliferations. They arise secondary treatment with immunosuppressive drugs given prevent transplant rejection. Three main pathologic subsets/stages evolution recognised: early, polymorphic, and monomorphic lesions. The pathogenesis PTLDs seems be multifactorial. Among possible infective aetiologies, the role EBV has been studied in depth, virus is...

Summary Distinguishing Burkitt lymphoma (BL) from B cell lymphoma, unclassifiable with features intermediate between diffuse large B‐cell (DLBCL) and BL (DLBCL/BL), DLBCL is challenging. We propose an immunohistochemistry fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) based scoring system that employed three phases – Phase 1 (morphology CD10 BCL2 immunostains), 2 (CD38, CD44 Ki‐67 immunostains) 3 (FISH on paraffin sections for MYC , BCL6 immunoglobulin family genes). Summary Both virus-associated haemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) and human immunodeficiency multi-centric Castleman's disease (HIV-MCD) induced by herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) are extremely rare. We therefore wished to investigate their occurrence together, establish the degree of cytokine activation present. From a prospective cohort individuals with HIV-MCD, we investigated incidence outcomes HPS measured 15 inflammatory cytokines plasma HHV-8 viral loads before during follow-up. Of 44 patients...

We investigated 26 B-cell post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (B-PTLD) and 15 human immunodeficiency virus-related aggressive lymphomas (HIV-BCL) from England that were associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) for the polymorphic sequences of EBV-encoded nuclear antigen 3C (EBNA3C) gene to distinguish two different EBV strains. Type-A-EBV was identified in 92% B-PTLDS 53% HIV-BCL (P = 0.003). Among HIV-BCL, patients type-B-EBV had been HIV positive significantly longer when...

Abstract Immunohistochemistry can sub‐classify diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) into germinal centre like (GCB) and non‐GCB subtypes. The latter consists predominately of the activated subgroup in which nuclear factor kappa‐B activation is its characteristic. Expression cellular caspase 8 (FLICE)‐like inhibitory protein (cFLIP), a homologue, regulated by signalling, it main inhibitor Fas ligand apoptosis. To determine if cFLIP expression was confined to subtype, we studied 66 cases...
