Classification of cervical cells in Pap smear images is a challenging task due to the limitations these exhibit and complexity morphological changes structural parts cells. This procedure very important as it provides fundamental information for detection cancerous or precancerous lesions. For this reason several algorithms have been proposed order classify normal abnormal such images. However, common phenomenon that each research group usually creates its own dataset images,...

In this paper, we present a fully automated method for cell nuclei detection in Pap smear images. The locations of the candidate centroids image are detected with morphological analysis and they refined second step, which incorporates priori knowledge about circumference each nucleus. elimination undesirable artifacts is achieved two steps: application distance-dependent rule on resulted centroids; classification algorithms. our method, have examined performance an unsupervised (fuzzy...

In this work we present a fully automated method for the accurate detection of cell nuclei boundaries in conventional Pap smear images, based on watershed transform. For extraction and cytoplasm markers, which are used as starting points flooding process, morphological reconstruction step is initially performed each image. The transform then applied color gradient image, shows more pronounced nuclei. elimination false positive findings, salient features shape intensity detected regions were...

The most important cellular protective mechanisms against oxidative stress are antioxidant enzymes. Their action is based on decomposal of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their transformation to H2O2. Within the mitochondria manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) affords major defense ROS. In this study we investigated tissue sections from 101 breast carcinomas for immunohistochemical expression MnSOD protein these results were assessed in relation various clinicopathological parameters,...

In this work, we present an automated method for the detection of cells nuclei boundaries in conventional PAP stained cervical smear images. The proposed consists three phases: a) definition candidate centroids set using mathematical morphology, b) initial approximation and c) application Gradient Vector Flow (GVF) snakes final estimation cell boundaries. It must be noted that each snake position is obtained automatically, without any observer interference. For determination our images,...

Background/Aim: Since most cancers are associated with alterations of the p53 and Rb pathways, expression p53, p21, Rb, p16, p27, cyclin D1, A, B1 Ki67 proteins were analyzed in bladder urothelial carcinomas (BUC). Materials Methods: One hundred twenty-two cases BUC studied by immunohistochemistry. Results: The pathways p53/p21 Rb/p16/cyclin D1 exhibited 81/115 63/84 cases, respectively. Alterations positively correlated high A expression. High Ki67, was inversely papillary morphology tumor...

Background/Aim: The mechanisms underlying the contribution of heparan sulfate proteoglycan syndecan-1 to liver tissue injury and crucial biological processes, such as fibrogenesis, remain be elucidated. Therefore, we investigated immunohistochemical expression in chronic diseases (CLDs) its probable role hepatic fibrosis. Materials Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections biopsy material obtained from 128 patients diagnosed with CLDs....

Archival biopsy specimens from transitional cell bladder cancers (n=88) were analysed immunohistochemically for the expression of retinoblastoma (Rb) gene protein, p53, mdm2, c-erbB-2, HLA-DR antigen and proliferation indices. An altered nuclear Rb, p53 mdm2 was observed in 55.2%, 33.3% 18.2% tumors respectively. Cytoplasmic membrane immunoreactivity (>25% tumor cells) c-erbB-2 detected 14.1% aberrant cytoplasmic staining (>5% 22.2% cases. P53 overexpression associated with higher grade...

We report a rare case of cellular neurilemoma (schwannoma) the descending colon, mimicking carcinoma, not accompanied by von Recklinghausen's disease. The differential diagnostic problems are discussed and possibility site-specific, modified Schwann cell myenteric plexus origin is suggested.
