Exposure of a human lung epithelial cancer cell‐line to hypo‐osmotic media led marked increase in the rate efflux from cells taurine, non‐essential sulfonic amino acid. The osmotically‐activated taurine was inhibited by range known Cl − channel blockers, most potent which were NPPB and 1,9‐dideoxyforskolin. These reagents similarly effective at inhibiting I , substrate volume‐activated channels. results are consistent with hypothesis that volume‐regulatory release these is mediated channel.
