Object. The authors report a retrospective analysis of 194 patients surgically treated at their institutions for symptomatic lumbar synovial cysts from January 1974 to 1996. Methods. Patient characteristics including age, sex, symptoms, signs, and preoperative neuroimaging studies were reviewed. Surgical procedures, complications, results, pathological findings correlated with assessment. One hundred ninety-four cysts. Eighty percent diagnosed between 1987 There 100 men 94 women an average...

OBJECTIVE Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) at 10 kHz (10-kHz SCS) is a safe and effective therapy for treatment of chronic low-back pain. However, it unclear from existing evidence whether these findings can be generalized to patients with back pain that refractory conventional medical management (CMM) who have no history spine surgery are not acceptable candidates surgery. The authors termed this condition "nonsurgical pain" (NSRBP) conducted multicenter, randomized controlled trial compare...

This analysis was performed to examine the outcome of patients with histologically confirmed central neurocytomas.Thirty-two neurocytomas were evaluated retrospectively. Patients treated various combinations surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy (RT). Follow-up ranged from 2.3 15.3 years (median, 4.7 years). The overall 5-year survival local control rates 81% 79%, respectively. No patient developed metastases. The rate 70% for undergoing subtotal resection (STR) 100% those gross total (GTR)...

BACKGROUND This study examined the outcome of patients with histologically confirmed pineal region tumors. METHODS One hundred thirty-five tumors and other germ cell brain were evaluated retrospectively. The parenchymal (PPTs) included 15 pineoblastomas (PB), 2 mixed PPTs, 4 PPTs intermediate differentiation, 9 pineocytomas. 48 germinomas, 26 tumors, 11 mature teratomas, immature 6 malignant yolk sac 3 choriocarcinomas. Sampling restrictions have hindered the comprehensive study of invasive non-enhancing (NE) high-grade glioma (HGG) cell populations driving tumor progression. Here, we present an integrated multi-omic analysis spatially matched molecular and multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) profiling across 313 multi-regional biopsies, including 111 from NE, 68 HGG patients. Whole exome RNA sequencing uncover unique genomic alterations to unresectable NE tumor, subclonal events, which inform...

We report on 6 advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) patients who underwent bilateral subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery whose restless legs syndrome (RLS) improved postoperatively. Despite a mean 56% decrease in their levodopa equivalents postoperatively, RLS scores dropped by of 84% (100% three). Our findings suggest that STN DBS can improve with PD.

"Lubag" or X-linked dystonia-parkinsonism (XDP) is a genetic syndrome afflicting Filipino men. Intracranial surgical procedures for Lubag have been unsuccessful. We report 45-year-old male with genetically confirmed XDP who underwent bilateral pallidal deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The patient started to exhibit improvement on initial programming, most notably of his severe jaw-opening dystonia. At 1-year follow-up, Burke-Fahn-Marsden dystonia score and motor Unified Parkinson's...

Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a commonly performed and highly successful surgical procedure. Metal‐on‐metal (MoM) THA implants were introduced two decades ago subsequently recalled due to high early revision rates. Acetabular cup erosion fragmentation secondary chronic edge loading causing delayed instability are rare but devastating complications of MoM warranting expeditious surgery. Case Presentation: We report 70‐year‐old male with history bilateral who presented left...

Abstract Background We report the accumulated experience with ventral intermediate nucleus deep brain stimulation for medically refractory orthostatic tremor. Methods Data from 17 patients were reviewed, comparing presurgical, short‐term (0‐48 months), and long‐term (≥48 months) follow‐up. The primary end point was composite activities of daily living/instrumental living score. Secondary points included latency symptoms on standing treatment‐related complications. Results There a 21.6%...
