本研究では,低応力下においても顕著な破砕性を示す火山灰質粗粒土の力学特性に及ぼす凍結融解作用の影響を検討するために,実地盤で生じる凍結融解現象を三軸室内で再現可能な試験機を新たに開発し,火山灰質粗粒土の三軸圧縮試験と保水性試験を行った.その結果,非凍上性の火山灰質粗粒土でも破砕性を有する場合には,凍結融解作用により粒子破砕が生じ,融解時に体積収縮する結果,密度が増加するにも関わらずピーク強度は低下し,保水性は高まった.したがって,積雪寒冷地にある火山灰質粗粒土の力学特性の検討には,粒子破砕特性に及ぼす凍結融解作用の影響を評価する必要があることを示した.
