Imaging flow cytometry (IFC) produces up to 12 spectrally distinct, information-rich images of single cells at a throughput 5,000 per second. Yet often, cell populations are still studied using manual gating, technique that has several drawbacks, hence it would be advantageous replace gating with an automated process. Ideally, this process based on stain-free measurements, as the currently used staining techniques expensive and potentially confounding. These measurements originate from...

Prebiotics and probiotics (synbiotics) can modify gut microbiota have potential in allergy management when combined with amino-acid-based formula (AAF) for infants cow's milk (CMA). This multicenter, double-blind, randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of an AAF-including synbiotic blend on percentages bifidobacteria Eubacterium rectale/Clostridium coccoides group (ER/CC) feces from suspected non-IgE-mediated CMA. Feces age-matched healthy breastfed were used as reference...

Background Food protein induced gastrointestinal allergies are difficult to characterise due the delayed nature of this allergy and absence simple diagnostic tests. Diagnosis is based on an focused history which can be challenging often yields ambiguous results. We therefore set out describe a group children with type allergy, provide overview typical profile, symptoms management strategies. Methods This retrospective analysis was performed at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. Previous studies provide evidence for an association between modifications of the gut microbiota in early life and development food allergies. We studied faecal composition (16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing) microbiome functionality (metaproteomics) a cohort 40 infants diagnosed with cow's milk allergy (CMA) when entering study. Some showed outgrowth CMA after 12 months, while others did not. Faecal was analysed directly diagnosis (baseline) as well 6 months The aim to gain insight on...

Here we report follow-up data from a double-blind, randomized, controlled multicenter trial, which investigated fecal microbiota changes with new amino acid-based formula (AAF) including synbiotics in infants non-immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated cow's milk allergy (CMA). Subjects were randomized to receive test product (AAF fructo-oligosaccharides and Bifidobacterium breve M-16V) or control for 8 weeks, after could continue study until 26 weeks. Fecal percentages of bifidobacteria Eubacterium...

Altered gut microbiota is implicated in cow's milk allergy (CMA) and differs markedly from healthy, breastfed infants. Infants who suffer severe CMA often rely on protein avoidance and, when breastfeeding not possible, specialised infant formulas such as amino-acid based (AAF). Herein, we report the effects of an AAF including specific synbiotics oral gastrointestinal infants with non-IgE mediated reference to

Many contemporary preparations do not contain much iodine, and there are renewed concerns about iodine status population. We present a boy with severe allergy who developed significant thyroid dysfunction association an iodine-deficient ‘food-restricted’ diet. The case highlights importance comprehensive nutritional assessment all children on multiple food restrictions.
