Low-frequency microwave brightness temperature is strongly affected by near-surface soil moisture; therefore, it can be assimilated into a land surface model to improve modeling of moisture and the energy budget. This study presents new variational system used assimilate AMSR-E vertical polarization 6.9 GHz 18.7 GHz. The consists (LSM) calculate fluxes moisture, radiative transfer (RTM) estimate temperature, an optimization scheme search for optimal values minimizing difference between...

We have demonstrated nonlinear cross-phase modulation in electro-optic crystals using intense, single-cycle terahertz (THz) radiation. Individual THz pulses, generated by coherent transition radiation emitted subpicosecond electron bunches, peak energies of up to 100 microJ per pulse. The time-dependent electric field the intense pulses induces through Pockels effect, leading spectral shifting, broadening, and copropagating laser pulses. observed THz-induced agrees well with a phase-shift model.

Taxol (1) is a clinically used antineoplastic diterpenoid. The tetracyclic ring system comprises 6/8/6-membered carbocycle (ABC-ring) and fused oxetane (D-ring) embedded with bridgehead double bond decorated multiple oxygen functionalities. Here, we report convergent total synthesis of this exceedingly complex natural product. C-ring fragment was designed to possess bromocyclohexenone an extra tetrahydrofuran control the reactivity selectivity, as well minimize functional group manipulations...
