Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA)‐based assessments of macro‐organisms have now become an essential approach for biomonitoring. eDNA survey methods a number advantages over conventional methods. However, the value data that will accumulate would be greatly enhanced by standardizing analysis methods, which allow us to compare from multiple monitoring sites at different points in time. The Society ( http://ednasociety.org/en/about ), whose founding members consist Japanese researchers...
The biological assessment of rivers i.e., their through use aquatic assemblages, integrates the effects multiple-stressors on these systems over time and is essential to evaluate ecosystem condition establish recovery measures. It has been undertaken in many countries since 1990s, but not globally. And where national or multi-national monitoring networks have gathered large amounts data, poor water body classifications necessarily resulted rehabilitation rivers. Thus, here we aimed identify...
Rivers suffer from multiple stressors acting simultaneously on their biota, but the consequences are poorly quantified at global scale. We evaluated biological condition of rivers globally, including largest proportion countries Global South published to date. gathered macroinvertebrate- and fish-based assessments 72,275 37,676 sites, respectively, 64 study regions across six continents 45 nations. Because were based differing methods, different systems consolidated into a 3-class system:...
River and wetland restoration has emerged as a worldwide phenomenon is becoming highly profitable business. Although researchers know lot about practices in Europe the United States, we have only scant information activities Japan, where more than 23,000 river projects been conducted during past 15 years. In daunting business because of high human population density, urbanization, harsh environmental conditions. Here provide an overview various Japan discuss lessons that can draw from them.
Summary To encourage more project assessment and reporting of restoration outcomes, Palmer et al . (2005 ) propose five criteria for assessing the ecological success river restoration. They also suggest that these should help to clarify which activities qualify funding facilitate consistency about what constitutes an ecologically successful project. We critique agree they all merit inclusion in However, practical application measuring self‐sustainability (resilience) following is potentially...
Abstract 2D materials are highly promising for tunnel field effect transistors (TFETs) with low subthreshold swing and high drive current because the shorter distance strong gate controllability can be expected from van der Waals gap atomically sharp heterointerface formed independently of lattice matching. However, common problem 2D–2D TFETs is lack doped process stability as sources. In this study, it found that p + ‐WSe 2 by charge transfer a WO x surface oxide layer stabilized...
Van der Waals heterostructures are the ideal material platform for tunnel field-effect transistors (TFETs) because a band-to-band tunneling (BTBT) dominant current is feasible at room temperature (RT) of ideal, dangling bond-free heterointerfaces. However, achieving subthreshold swing (SS) values lower than 60 mV dec-1 Boltzmann limit still challenging. In this work, we systematically studied band alignment and heterointerface quality in n-MoS2 channel heterostructure TFETs. By selecting...
Artificial Floating Islands (AFIs) are vegetated floating platforms used in lakes, ponds and reservoirs to enhance the aquatic environment. AFIs have four functions: 1) water purification, 2) habitat enhancement, 3) shoreline erosion protection, 4) improved landscape features. This paper reviews performance of AFI. Although AFI can be found many countries (e.g. China, England, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan) they most prevalent Japan where more than 70,000 m2 structures exist. provides...

We developed a dedicated scanning transmission electron microscope with high-stability. The mechanical and electronic stabilities of the were substantially improved, e.g. specimen drift rate was found to be <0.2 nm min(-1). Fourier transform an ADF image showed spots 0.105 at acceleration voltage 200 kV without spherical aberration corrector. stabilized STEM instrument allows us acquire distortion-free images high-signal noise ratio analyses. have shown outline preliminary results.
Abstract Sex reversal effects of nonylphenol and bisphenol A on the gonads in F 1 (AWE × WE) Japanese quail ( Coturnix japonica ) embryos were investigated using an vivo screening model developed previously. The are a useful avian because sex differentiation is confirmed by plumage color before hatching, ruled criss‐cross inheritance. at 200, 2,000, 20,000, 200,000 ng/egg 20, 20,000 injected into egg white just incubation. At 16 d incubation, subjected to complete necropsy, their both...
In ruminants, Interferon tau (IFNT) is the pregnancy recognition protein produced by mononuclear trophectoderm of conceptus, and secreted into uterine lumen during peri-attachment period. our previous study, high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data obtained from bovine conceptuses period identified two IFNT mRNAs, IFNT2 IFNTc1. However, how each these variants regulates endometrial gene expression has not been characterized. Using RNA-seq analysis, we evaluated IFNTc1 affected...
Worldwide, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. To manage nodules, radiologists observe computed tomography images, review various imaging findings, and record these in radiology reports. The report contents should be high quality uniform regardless radiologist. Here, we propose an artificial intelligence system that automatically generates descriptions related to nodules images. Our consists image recognition method for extracting contents–namely, bronchopulmonary...

Infectivity of porcine circovirus (PCV) 1 and PCV2 was examined in primary hepatocyte culture by comparing that PCV kidney cell culture. The virus titer PCV2-infected cultures higher than the PCV1-infected PCV-infected cultures. number virus-positive cells most abundant as determined immunohistochemistry and/or situ hybridization. results our data suggest preferably infects cultured hepatocytes observed liver pigs with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome.
Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) is widely used in avian reproduction tests and sex reversal screening for evaluating adverse effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). However, there are few reports on the molecular biological profiles during development sexual differentiation gonads quail. In present study, we investigated mRNA expression cytochrome P450 17αhydroxylase (P450c17), aromatase (P450arom), anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), estrogen receptor α (ERα) androgen (AR)...
