When a drop of aqueous solution containing suspended particles dries, accumulate at the contact line. Often line undergoes sequence pinning−depinning events with accumulating whenever is pinned. These processes lead to ring formation, details which are examined here. In particular, we provide detailed measurements formation as function radius and size particles, report time dependence essentially stochastic cycles motion.

Fingertip pulse oximeters are widely available, inexpensive, and commonly used to make clinical decisions in many settings. Device performance is largely unregulated poorly characterised, especially people with dark skin pigmentation.

For noninvasive light-based physiological monitoring, optimal wavelengths of individual tissue components can be identified using absorption spectroscopy. However, because the lack sensitivity hardware at longer wavelengths, spectroscopy has typically been applied for in visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) range from 400 to 1,000 nm. Hardware advancements short-wave infrared (SWIR) have enabled investigators explore ~1,000 nm 3,000 which fall characteristic peaks lipid, protein, water....

Background: Vascular malformations (VMs) are a collection of rare diseases that result from abnormal overgrowth vascular tissue and can lead to pain, infection, disfigurement, decreased mobility. invade or impinge on nearby structures, including nerves, causing numbness, and/or functional impairment. If nonsurgical therapy fails, surgical resection is considered. However, VMs’ thin walls tendency infiltrate recur makes difficult impossible. Rather than resecting, we have found patients still...

Significance: Detection and characterization of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), a key determinant metastasis, are critical for determining risk disease progression, understanding metastatic pathways, facilitating early clinical intervention. Aim: We aim to demonstrate label-free imaging suspected melanoma CTCs. Approach: use linear-array-based photoacoustic tomography system (LA-PAT) detect CTCs, quantify their contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs), measure flow velocities in most the superficial...

Maximum elastance is an experimentally validated, load-independent systolic function index stemming from the time-varying paradigm that decoupled extrinsic load (intrinsic) contractility. Although Doppler echocardiography preferred method of diastolic (DF) assessment, all echo-derived indexes are dependent, and no invasive or noninvasive filling (LIIF) exists. In this study, we derived validated a LIIF. We used kinematic (the parameterized formalism) to predict derive (dimensionless) dynamic...

Average left ventricular (LV) chamber stiffness (Delta P(avg)/Delta V(avg)) is an important diastolic function index. An E-wave-based determination of Delta V(avg) (Little WC, Ohno M, Kitzman DW, Thomas JD, Cheng CP. Circulation 92: 1933-1939, 1995) predicted that deceleration time (DT) determines as follows: = N(pi/DT)(2) (where N constant), which implies if the DTs two LVs are indistinguishable, their indistinguishable well. We observed with may have markedly different values determined by...

During early rapid filling, blood aspirated by the left ventricle (LV) generates an asymmetric toroidal vortex whose development has been quantified using formation time (VFT), a dimensionless index defined length-to-diameter ratio of (equivalent cylindrical) fluid column. Since LV wall motion atrioventricular pressure gradient resulting in transmitral flow (Doppler E-wave) and associated formation, we hypothesized that causal relation between VFT diastolic function (DF), parametrized...

Disparities in surgical outcomes often result from subjective decisions dictated by training, experience, and available resources. To improve outcomes, surgeons have adopted advancements robotics, endoscopy, intra-operative imaging including fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS), which highlights tumors anatomy real-time. However, technical, economic, logistic challenges hinder widespread adoption of FGS beyond high-resource centers. overcome these impediments, we combined laser diodes,...
