ABSTRACT: Retrospective studies that address the diseases in feline species are scarce. Herein, we presented cause of death or euthanasia cats from January 2020 to December 2021, during first and second years SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The data were obtained necropsies performed by Federal Rural University Rio de Janeiro Mato Grosso. A total 96 performed. In 87 cases (90.6%), established reason for death, while nine (9.4%), diagnoses inconclusive. We diagnostic groups: infectious parasitic...
Abstract A 10‐year‐old black howler monkey presented with a 36‐day subacute clinicopathological picture of fever, prostration, inappetence, intestinal hypomotility, and emaciation. Therapy was trimethoprim‐sulfamethoxazole streptomycin. The liver, lungs, lymph nodes, spleen lesions. Toxoplasma gondii isolation PCR determined the diagnosis, indirect fluorescent antibody tests confirmed an increase in titers.
ABSTRACT: Although, serological assays for detecting immune response against Toxoplasma gondii in goats and sheep are frequent Brazil, studies showing lesions confirmation of infectious causes abortion the state Rio de Janeiro have not been reported. This study aimed to describe an outbreak caused by T. a goat herd Janeiro. At histological examination, necrotizing encephalitis lymphoplasmacytic myositis were observed fetuses submitted necropsy. The diagnoses confirmed immunohistochemistry,...
Toxoplasmosis is an important zoonotic disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii and especially fatal for neotropical primates. In Brazil, Ministry of Health responsible national epizootic surveillance, but some diseases are still neglected. Here, we present integrated investigation outbreak that occurred during first year COVID-19 pandemic among eleven primates housed at a primatology center in Brazil. After presenting non-specific clinical signs, all animals died within four days. A...
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the etiological agent of disease 2019 (COVID-19) in humans. SARS-CoV-2 has been identified cats with or without clinical signs.
ABSTRACT: Copper is an essential micromineral in animal feed; however, when consumed excess, it can cause liver necrosis, hemolytic crisis, hemoglobinuric nephrosis and death cattle. Although uncommon this species, copper poisoning occurs as a result of exacerbated supplementation, deficiency antagonist microminerals, or previous lesions. An outbreak chronic reported semi-confined cattle after supplementation with 50 mg/Kg dry matter copper. The showed clinical signs characterized by...
A clinicopathologic picture caused by Lichtheimia sp. in a 33-year-old male Sapajus xanthosternos kept conservationist center is described. Acute apathy, vomiting, fever, and polydipsia were associated with pneumonia, enteritis, gastritis presenting fibrinoid vasculitis containing hyphae. The fungi demonstrated molecularly, highlighting the spontaneous disease primates.
ABSTRACT: Conidiobolomycosis has a wide distribution, predominantly in humid tropical regions, affecting several species with significant mortality rates. The genus Conidiobolus is now divided into four genera: Capillidium, Conidiobolus, Microconidiobolus, and Neoconidiobolus. There are no confirmed reports of infection by these fungi Equidae Brazil. We present rhinofacial rhinitis caused Neoconidiobolus lamprauges mule from Rio de Janeiro, presented bilateral semi-occlusion the nostrils,...
Abstract Reports of spontaneous hematopoietic neoplasms in Platyrrhines species are scarce. We present the gross, histological, and immunohistochemical findings disseminated T‐cell lymphoma a male 25‐year‐old Sapajus xanthosternos kept Brazilian conservation center. No molecular evidence betaherpesvirus or gammaherpesvirus was associated with occurrence this neoplasm.
Abstract Primary female reproductive neoplasms in Platyrrhines species are few reported. We present the gross, histological, and immunohistochemical findings of metastatic endometrioid carcinoma uterus, urinary bladder, jejunum, rectum a Leontopithecus sp. The neoplastic endometrial cells expressed strong cytoplasmic immunolabeling cytokeratin 7.
Abstract Herein we present the pathological findings of different tuberculosis stages in Old and New World monkeys kept under human care Rio de Janeiro, Brazil naturally infected with Mycobacterium Complex. Fifteen nonhuman primates from five colonies were incorporated into study. There are 60% (9/15) Monkeys 40% (6/15) Monkeys. According to gross histopathologic findings, lesions this study classified chronic-active, extrapulmonary, early-activation or latent-reactivation stage. Among...
ABSTRACT: Mesotheliomas in cattle are often described as isolated case reports, and investigations of multiple cases within the same bovine herd lacking. A series malignant epithelial mesothelioma, tubulopapilary type, is five 15 to 21-year-old Red Sindhi cows from herd. Clinical signs included three eight months progressive emaciation, dehydration, subcutaneous edema lower extremities, abdominal distension. Grossly, severe hydroperitoneum were noted. Multiple organs’ parietal visceral...
Abstract As exemplified by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, infectious diseases may emerge and spread rapidly, often causing serious economic losses public health concerns. In fact, disease outbreaks have become increasingly common, especially those of zoonotic origin. The Brazilian Ministry Health is responsible for national epizootic surveillance. However, system’s focus primarily on affecting humans has led to neglect other diseases. this report, we present an integrated...
ABSTRACT: Pythiosis is the disease caused by aquatic oomycetes of genus Pythium. In dogs typical course involves gastrointestinal tract, characterized transmural thickening stomach or intestines. However, infection Pythium spp. has only rarely been recognized as a cause esophagitis in dogs. Thus, present reports case esophageal and gastric pythiosis an eight-month-old female pit bull dog. The dog was attended at hospital after two months presenting regurgitation dyspnea. It reported that...
ABSTRACT: Spirorchidiasis is one of the most common diseases in green turtles. Eggs and adult form trematodes are mainly found heart, liver, lung, spleen, gastrointestinal tract. The present study aimed to describe pathological aspects Spirorchiidae trematode infection turtles (Chelonia mydas) Campos Basin, Rio de Janeiro. current was based on necropsy 99 mydas, Chelonidae) from April December 2021. Epidemiological data were obtained Aquatic Biota Monitoring Information System (SIMBA). A...
Background: Hemangiosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm of endothelial cells with an infiltrative growth pattern. Hemangiosarcomas are frequently reported in canines and rare felines, sheep, goats, swine, horses cattle. Few cases hemangiosarcoma were In the present report, we describe clinicopathological findings bovine muscle hemangiosarcoma.Case: A 6-year-old, Girolando cow from Dairy Cattle Sector Federal Rural University Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), Seropédica, presented sternal decubitus....
ABSTRACT: Hepatitis E is an emerging zoonotic disease caused by hepatitis virus (HEV). Immunohistochemistry (IHC) can be used to verify viral presence in human and swine livers. The aim of this study was comparatively analyze the immunolabeling ORF2 protein (pORF2) versus ORF3 (pORF3) HEV livers from subsistence farms state Mato Grosso, Brazil. This included 25 liver samples formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue block a published molecular detection immunohistochemistry study, which pORF3...
