Integrated optical components on lithium niobate play a major role in standard high-speed communication systems. Over the last two decades, after birth and positioning of quantum information science, waveguide architectures have emerged as one key platforms for enabling photonics technologies. Due to mature technological processes structure integration, well inherent efficient properties nonlinear effects, devices are nowadays at heart many photon-pair or triplet sources, single-photon...

Over the last two decades, integrated photonics has profoundly revolutionized domain of quantum technologies. The ongoing second revolution stands as a timely opportunity for state-of-the-art review and, most important, an exploration directions undertaken by photonics. Within this perspective, based on recent advances, we discuss current challenges and future trends related to different technological platforms. Key examples will be considered across various subfields, including...

Nonstationary stimulated Brillouin backscattering in a large gain optical-fiber ring cavity laser exhibits superluminous Stokes pulses of quasisoliton type and partial self-induced transparency for the pump. Experimental evidences, comforted by numerical simulation three-wave coherent model taking acoustic-wave dynamics into account, show that this class long transients occurs even with cw-coupled pump wave.

Stability analysis allows the understanding of experimental steady and pulsed regimes observed in cw-pumped Brillouin fiber-ring lasers. The instantaneous acoustic response model proves to be singular, while coherent stimulated-Brillouin-scattering (SBS) three-wave yields a well-behaved Hopf bifurcation for critical value feedback (several percent intensity). computed nonlinear dynamics shows self-organization asymptotically stable pulses, not depending on initial noise. A stable train of compressed Stokes pulses (to ~10 nsec) is obtained in a stimulated Brillouin fiber ring laser (of length L = 83 m) by periodically interrupting the argon-ion cw pump beam with an intraring cavity acousto-optic modulator. Interruption action, at each round-trip time tr ≃ Ln/c, permits damping excited sound waves that accumulate entry owing to inertial response material, well described coherent three-wave scattering model (C3W-SBS equations).
