Streptococcus agalactiae, commonly known as group B streptococcus (GBS), is a cause of infectious disease in numerous animal species. This study examined the genetic relatedness piscine, dolphin and human GBS isolates bovine reference strains from different geographical regions using serological molecular serotyping multilocus sequence typing (MLST) techniques. Piscine originating Kuwait, Brazil, Israel USA were capsular serotype Ia, previously unreported isolated fish. Sequence piscine...

In the present study, we examined whether microorganisms collaterally ingested by insects with their food activate innate immune system to confer systemic resistance against subsequent bacterial invasion. Silkworms orally administered heat-killed Pseudomonas aeruginosa cells showed intra-hemolymph infection P. aeruginosa. Oral administration of peptidoglycans, cell wall components aeruginosa, conferred protective effects infection, whereas oral lipopolysaccharides, surface components, did...

ABSTRACT This study compares the phylogenetic lineages of invasive serotype III group B streptococci (GBS) to those colonizing strains in order determine associated with disease. Isolates from 29 infants early-onset disease (EOD) and 196 colonized infants, collected a prospective, multicenter study, were assigned sequence type (ST) by multilocus typing. Overall, 54.5% isolates ST-19 complex, 40.4% ST-17 complex. Invasive more likely be complex than (59% versus 38%, P = 0.03). After we...

There is a growing body of literature demonstrating that single bout exercise benefits executive cognitive function. While the acute effect closed-skill exercises like walking, running, and cycling has been well investigated, it less clear how open-skill impacts function brain activation. Therefore, we compared effects an on inhibitory control activation with those using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Twenty-four young right-hand dominant adults (9 women) completed three...

ABSTRACT Many group B Streptococcus agalactiae strains and other pathogenic streptococci express a cell-associated peptidase that inactivates C5a (C5a-ase), the major neutrophil chemoattractant produced by activation of complement cascade. Type III (GBS) can be classified genotypically into three restriction digest pattern types. Functional C5a-ase activity GBS correlates with this genetic typing; therefore, we sought to identify basis for phenomenon. Southern hybridization confirms all type...

Toxic effects of microcystin RR as a blue-green algal hepatotoxin in laboratory quails were examined. In order to determine the LD50, purified was injected into peritoneum quails. The value obtained 256 micrograms/kg quail. Usually died between 14 and 18 hr after injection. After administration toxin, quail spleens enlarged doubling control spleens, whereas lives did not change. These are quite different from those mice rats, indicating toxic mechanism toxin is different.
