Abstract Many cockroach species have adapted to urban environments, and some been serious pests of public health in the tropics subtropics. Here, we present 3.38-Gb genome a consensus gene set American cockroach, Periplaneta americana . We report insights from both genomic functional investigations into underlying basis its adaptation environments developmental plasticity. In comparison with other insects, expansions families P. exist for most core likely associated environmental adaptation,...
Generic characteristics of the leafhopper genus Kusala Dworakowska are revised, and a new subgenus Scodela is established. A species checklist provided three added: (Kusala) viraktamathi, K. (Scodela) directa (S.) sinuata spp. nov.. The related Diomma Motschulsky also redescribed described: (Diomma) sangzhiensis sp.
General characteristics of Anufrievia Dworakowska and a key to the species from China Thailand are provided. Twenty-one new species, adaucta, A. arcuata, curva, expensa, falcata, forcipiformis, fusina, jinghongensis, liubanus, parisakazu, plana, qinlingensis, quadrata, sphenoides, subapicifixa, subdentata, sufflata, symmetrica, triangulata, triprocessa wolongensis described. Four newly recorded China: akazu (Matsumura), badjawae Dworakowska, bauhinicola Viraktamath zelta Dworakowska. is also...
Invasive species cause considerable ecological and economic damage. Despite decades of broad impacts invasives on diversity agriculture, the genetic adaptations near-term evolution invading populations are poorly understood. The fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea, a highly successful invasive that originated in North America, spread throughout Northern Hemisphere during past 80 years. Here, we use whole-genome sequencing transcriptome profiling to probe underlying bases for rapid adaptation this...
The leafhopper genus Thaia Ghauri, 1962 and two related genera, Parathaia Kuoh, 1982 Pseudothaia 1982, are revised. Nlunga Dworakowska, 1974, previously treated as a subgenus of Thaia, is elevated to the level, synonym reinstated valid status. Oriental species lacking foveae on pronotum excluded from transferred new genus, Etmaria gen. n. Two species, caudata Song & Li, 2013 (Nlunga) leishanensis (Song 2007), Incertae sedis within Erythroneurini. Moreover, nine additional described...
Generic characteristics of genus Alnetoidia Dlabola are revised based on study nine species from China, including two new species: A. (Alnetoidia) gracilis, (Alnella) dentata spp. nov., and four records to China. A key for identification Chinese adult males is provided.
Generic characteristics of three Australian erythroneurine genera are revised based on new species: Baya lata, Zinga longa and Pettya tenuis spp. nov. Male genitalia genus Kirkaldy described for the first time.
Six Afrotropical genera of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini are redescribed and two new genera, Laminaris gen. nov. Projecta established. Sixteen species described illustrated: angusta sp. nov., cuspidatima serrata tenuis auriculata brevis depressa draciformis Accacidia obunca Imbecilla bifurca spinalis Lublinia anchoroides Molopopterus hastata ugandica Lamtoana exigua Nsesa cameroonica Dworakowska, 1974 is newly recorded from Cameroon; Nsimbala Szymczakowskia Central African Republic;...
Abstract We analysed a phylogenomic dataset comprising 730 terminal taxa and >160,000 nucleotide positions obtained using anchored hybrid enrichment of genomic DNA for sample deltocephaline leafhoppers outgroups. Maximum likelihood analyses concatenated amino acid sequences as well coalescent gene tree analysis, yielded well‐resolved phylogenetic estimates that were highly congruent with most branches receiving maximum support. Some topological incongruence occurs among the trees...
A redescription of the erythroneurine leafhopper genus Hepneriana Dworakowska and a key to Chinese species are provided. Eleven new species, applanata, H. bicruris, concava, euryaedeaga, longa, menglunensis, paragamma, prostrata, robusta, taibaoensis undulata spp. nov. described joannae (Dworakowska) is newly recorded from China.
Abstract Two new genera of the leafhopper tribe Erythroneurini, Hamata gen. nov. and Levigata nov., are established based on type species from Yunnan, China: coralliformis sp. arborea respectively. additional species, Gladkara bifida Yunnan Thapaia tibetensis Tibet, described illustrated amended descriptions their respective provided. A synonymy is suggested: Elbelus tripunctatus Mahmood, 1967 = melianus Kuoh, 1992, syn. Eleven nine erythroneurine newly recorded Arboridia ( ) kakogawana...
The evolution of feeding habits leads to speciation in insects. Bactrocera true fruit flies display diverse across species. We combine behavioral and functional genomic studies probe the divergence between specialist B. minax generalist dorsalis. find that both vision olfaction contribute their respective host preferences, with a dominant effect over short range. Correspondingly, location-related genes are significantly enriched phototransduction pathway, which long-wavelength rhodopsin...
The generic characteristics of Ishiharella Dworakowska are redefined based on two new species from southern China, I. trifurcata and wuxiensis spp. nov., a combination spinosa (Sohi & Mann, 1990) comb. nov. removed Daluana. A key to males all known worldwide is also given. detailed morphological description about differences between the related species, illustrations male genitalia habitus photos provided.
Despite several decades' effort to detect and identify phytoplasmas (Mollicutes) using PCR Sanger sequencing focusing on diseased plants, knowledge of phytoplasma biodiversity vector associations remains highly incomplete. To improve protocols for documenting diversity ecology, we used DNA extracted from phloem-feeding insects compared traditional with a next-generation method, Anchored Hybrid Enrichment (AHE) detecting characterizing phytoplasmas. Among 22 180 leafhopper samples that...
Abstract BACKGROUND Doublesex ( dsx ), the downstream gene in insect sex‐determination pathway, is a key regulator of sexually dimorphic development and behavior across variety insects. Manipulating expression could be useful genetic control However, information on sex‐specific function non‐model insects lacking. RESULTS In this work, we isolated homolog, which alternatively spliced into six female‐specific one male‐specific isoforms, from an important agricultural pest, black cutworm,...
Abstract “ Candidatus Sulcia muelleri” (Sulcia) is a diverse lineage of intracellular nutritional endosymbiotic bacteria strictly associated with auchenorrhynchous hemipteran insects. has undergone long‐term codiversification its insect hosts but the phylogeny these endosymbionts, their relationships to other bacteria, and extent occurrence within various groups Auchenorrhyncha remain inadequately explored. Comprehensive phylogenetic analyses related were performed elucidate position...
Abstract The tea geometrid is a destructive insect pest on plants, which seriously affects production in terms of both yield and quality causes severe economic losses. also provides an important study system to address the ecological adaptive mechanisms underlying its unique host plant adaptation protective resemblance. In this study, we fully sequenced de novo assembled reference genome geometrid, Ectropis grisescens , using long sequencing reads. We presented highly continuous,...
Abstract Phylogenomic analyses of datasets comprising 665 anchored loci and 234 species representing all recognized tribes regional faunas the leafhopper subfamily Typhlocybinae yielded well-resolved phylogenies for this group, largely robust to differences in analytical approach. The results support 5 currently as monophyletic: Alebrini, Empoascini, Typhlocybini, Dikraneurini, Erythroneurini, but previously Zyginellini Eupterygini are polyphyletic. A new tribe Beameranini is described based...
