The evolution of South China involved accretion-collision multiple terranes from the Proterozoic to Mesozoic.Zircon U-Pb ages, Hf data, and structural data indicate that Cathaysia block consists two terranes, West East Cathaysia, separated by a newly recognized major strike-slip fault. We propose was part microcontinent originated Grenvillian-aged orogen in Rodinia supercontinent, an Indosinian-aged Paleo-Tethyan regime south translated east through motion, early Paleozoic Wuyi-Yunkai orogeny...

Zircons are crucial to understanding the first 500 Myr of crustal evolution Earth. Very few zircons this age (>4050 Ma) have been found other than from a ~300 km diameter domain Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia. Here we report SIMS U-Pb and O isotope ratios trace element analyses for two ~4100 Ma detrital Paleozoic quartzite at Longquan area Cathaysia Block. One zircon ((207)Pb/(206)Pb 4127 ± 4 shows normal oscillatory zonation constant oxygen (δ(18)O = 5.8 6.0‰). The grain has magmatic...

Metamorphic zircon from a hornblendite in the South China Block (SCB) yield U-Pb age of 533 ± 7 Ma and Hf model ages 900 to 1200 Ma. Geochemical isotopic characteristics indicate that primary magma hornblendites was probably derived an enriched asthenospheric mantle source. This Late Neoproterozoic-Cambrian (Pan-African) metamorphic event provides first direct evidence SCB integral part Gondwana assembly. Combined with available geological data which show has great affinity India or...

Abstract Collisional orogeny is characterized by deep subduction of continental crust and major crustal thickening, leading to high-pressure/high-temperature metamorphism anataxis the subducted crust. Since conductive heating large slabs cold, a slow process, temperature that high enough generate significant partial melting can take tens millions years. Where spatial temporal relationships are obscured due later modification (e.g. post-collisional rifting), peak magmatism may be interpreted...

Abstract Identifying source orogens for syn-orogenic sediments in dispersed fragments of a supercontinent provides key information on the tectonic evolution involved assembly and paleogeographic reconstruction. An approach using U-Pb geochronology trace elements multiple detrital minerals including zircon, rutile, apatite, monazite has major advantages over zircon studies alone. Application this multi-pronged to Ediacaran Cambrian clastic sedimentary rocks from West Cathaysia terrane South...

Helium is a critical, scarce, and strategic resource, often found in association with natural gas. This study reports the first discovery of overpressured helium-rich gas Lower Yangtze Region Eastern China, helium concentrations reaching as high 4.5%, significantly surpassing commercial extraction threshold 0.1%. Comprehensive geochemical analyses, including isotopes ratios, carbon isotope compositions CH4 CO2, compositional data, indicate that this region predominantly crustal origin....
