This paper is a report of study to identify critical thinking learning needs new and experienced nurses.Concern for patient safety has grown worldwide as high rates error injury continue be reported. In order improve safety, nurses must able recognize changes in condition, perform independent nursing interventions, anticipate orders prioritize. In 2004-2006, consecutive sample 2144 newly hired university-affiliated healthcare system completed the Performance Based Development System...
To define the Oncology Nursing Society Research Agenda for 2019-2022.
PurposeAlthough acute post-surgical pain (APSP) after hysterectomy is typically treated as a dynamic process, it often operationalized static variable with limited research on APSP trajectories, particularly for gynecologic cancer. This study aimed to 1) identify distinct trajectories the five days following in cancer patients and 2) evaluate factors associated these trajectories.MethodsA retrospective cohort was conducted involving undergoing hysterectomy. Demographics, medical history,...
To advance the goals of evidence-based care and prioritize knowledge generation that addresses contemporary challenges in oncology nursing. Results are used to inform development Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Research Agenda by ONS Foundation develop strategic research initiatives.Descriptive, cross-sectional survey.Web-based survey.8,554 members from all levels education. All doctorally prepared were invited participate. A random stratified sample was obtained remainder membership.The...
The CYP2D6 gene encodes for an enzyme that is involved in the metabolism of more than 25% all medications, including many opioids and antiemetics. It may contribute to risk postoperative nausea vomiting (PONV), a common surgical complication. However, little research has been conducted this area. purpose study was explore association genotypes with PONV adult trauma patients. Data from 112 patients (28% female) single extremity fractures, aged 18–70 years, were analyzed. defined as present...
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy transtracheal (TT) oxygen delivery that nasal cannula in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Twenty (14 men, 6 women) were followed for months during delivery. A TT catheter then inserted, and measurements repeated use. With delivery, required 45% less at rest 39% exercise (p than 0.0001). Oxygen use, measured by pounds delivered home, also decreased, but magnitude change anticipated (mean, 14%; range, +4% -32%)....
Previous studies have reported that exercise tolerance improves with transtracheal oxygen delivery. However, patients were not blinded to the delivery technique used, introducing a potential source of bias. The purpose this study was compare during nasal cannula and using randomized double-blinded technique. Subjects (n = 11) performed 12-min walks on same day while receiving Nine 11 subjects walked farther delivery, significant increase (p less than 0.01). Mean in walk distance 95 +/- 86...
Purpose/Objectives: To examine the association of serotonin transport gene and postdischarge nausea vomiting (PDNV) in women following breast cancer surgery.
Transtracheal (TT) oxygen delivery involves administration of percutaneously through a catheter inserted in the suprasternal trachea. has been proposed as means overcoming high visibility, inconvenience, and discomfort associated with nasal cannula use. This report describes our experience using TT 40 patients chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (n = 32) other types lung 8). Overall acceptance use was only 5 subjects elected to discontinue We believe route is relatively safe approach for...
Teaching patients with cancer the skill of self-advocacy shifts focus their care onto what is important to them, leading optimized patient-centered care. As oncology nurses, providing support as they self-advocate get needs met fosters a collaborative relationship, creating an environment in which feel comfortable verbalizing and concerns.
Precision medicine refers to the practice of determining a patient's unique genetic, biomarker, and other characteristics for purpose improving his or her clinical outcomes. Not all patients with same diagnosis respond equally identical treatment regimens. By examining at molecular level, health-care providers will be better able apply most effective therapies that each individual requires. To understand precision medicine, nurses must have solid understanding genomics proteomics. The this...
Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine the ability an assistive device increase exercise tolerance in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and identify characteristics associated benefit from use device. Methods sample consisted 12 subjects (all male) who were diagnosed COPD, (FEV1/FVC <60% predicted) required continuous oxygen therapy. Mean age 62.8 years, mean FEV1 33 \pm 12% predicted flow rate 2.3 L/min (range 1–4 L/min). All performed two...
Incorporating omics into non-pharmacological intervention research design could provide a better understanding of the variability in response to these interventions. It would also evidence for precision-based interventions, including interventions focused on symptoms. The purpose this manuscript was present examples studies that have used examine intervention. Using exercise, diet (related obesity), cognitive based therapy, and alternative mind-body practices (meditation, yoga, tai chi),...
