Vascular mineralization is a hallmark of enzootic calcinosis. Histopathological, ultrastructural, and immunohistochemical investigations were performed on the external carotid arteries seven sheep naturally poisoned by Nierembergia veitchii. Histologically, moderate to marked hyperplasia tunica intima was observed without mineralization. The media exhibited mild severe osteochondroid metaplasia. Sheep with calcinosis showed arterial overexpression osteopontin tissue-nonspecific alkaline...
We investigated 2 outbreaks of osteomalacia as a result phosphorus (P) deficiency in herds lactating beef cows grazing subtropical native pastures Uruguay. Cows exhibited pica, difficulty to stand and walk, rib fractures, body weight loss even with adequate forage availability. Osteopenia severe were observed on gross histologic examination. The concentrations bicarbonate-extractable P soil (4.0, 4.1 mg P/kg), total pasture (0.9, 1.1 g inorganic serum (1.0, 0.71 mmol P/L), bone (73 P/mL) all...
An outbreak of acute febrile syndrome associated with coagulopathy and severe pancytopenia occurred in cattle grazing paddocks high infestation by Adiantopsis chlorophylla. The administration the plant to a calf reproduced same signs lesions seen spontaneous cases. Similar syndromes are caused ptaquiloside from bracken fern. Traces ptaquiloside-like molecule caudatoside were detected together 0.03-0.24 mg/g it's degradation product pterosin A, dry fronds plant. In conclusion, A. chlorophylla...
ABSTRACT: This study reports four outbreaks of Cestrum axillare poisoning in cattle. Outbreaks occurred farms the Distrito Federal, Goiás, and Minas Gerais states during dry season, affecting cows heifers, with a mortality rate 1 to 14,28%. Poisoned animals showed neurological signs recumbency, followed by death within 12 hours, some were found dead. Gross histological lesions typical acute hepatotoxicity hepatomegaly, enhancement lobular pattern, centrilobular massive necrosis. seems be...
ABSTRACT: We described the first case of rhinofacial pythiosis with dissemination in an adult horse Uruguay. The affected presented a partially circumscribed mass measuring 30 x 23 9 cm affecting right side face involvement cutaneous, subcutaneous, and muscular tissues, nasal cavity, adjacent structures. At postmortem examination, main lesions were “kunkers” characterized by pyogranulomatous eosinophilic dermatitis, Splendore-Hoeppli reaction numerous intralesional hyphae immunolabeling...
At clinical examination, a 5-year-old male domestic short-haired cat exhibited painful swelling and erythema of the pinnae both ears. Microscopically, lesions on were composed diffuse granulomatous chondritis with degeneration necrosis pinnal cartilage. Numerous mast cells also observed within surrounding inflammatory lesion. Immunohistochemistry showed mixed infiltrate characterised by predominance macrophages (CD68+, MAC 387+ Lysozyme+), T lymphocytes (CD3+), some B (CD79α+) neutrophils....
Background: Toxic reactions due bee stings in human, companion animals, food animals and wild are sporadically reported. Accidents involving bees have been occurring urban rural areas since 1956, when African were introduced Brazil, forming populations of aggressive hybrid Africanized bees. Their sting cause local systemicreactions, which include dermatologic reactions, anaphylactic toxic systemic before death. The aim this article is to describe the clinical pathological aspects two dogs...
syn.Nierembergia repens) in South America (Santos et al., 2012), Cestrum diurnum North America, Trisetum flavescens Europe, and Solanum torvum Oceania (Mello, 2003).S. glaucophyllum C. contain 1-alpha, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1α,25(OH)2D3] (calcitriol) (Wasserman 1976;Mello, 2003).Although the chemical structure of toxic compound Nierembergia spp. is unknown, N. veitchii possesses a similar vivo biological activity to calcitriol.
This study investigated two outbreaks of spontaneous poisoning by Baccharis coridifolia (Asteraceae) in early-weaned beef calves Tacuarembó, Uruguay. A total 34 affected showed signs salivation, anorexia, apathy, marked dehydration, and diarrhea. Deaths occurred 36–72 h after consumption mortality varied from 37.5% to 43.3% for outbreak 1 2, respectively. The main pathological findings include diffuse severe necrosis the prestomachs lymphoid tissues. Ultrastructurally, epithelial cells rumen...
