Diffuse serotonergic fibers are presumed to project the telencephalon from nucleus raphe dorsalis (NRD) of midbrain, in a manner similar cholinergic projections basalis Meynert (nbM) cerebral cortex. Neuropathological changes both these nuclei have been reported Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although many morphometric studies nbM AD documented, only one such study NRD has conducted so far; it demonstrated sixfold increase neurofibrillary tangles but no statistically significant difference number...
Serial sections of the brains two cases with Alzheimer's disease were stained standard Bodian, modified Bielschowsky (reformed Gros‐Schultze's modification) and thioflavin S methods. The numbers demonstrated neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) different between silver stains: from 15 to 75% more NFTs shown distinctly stain than Bodian stain. Many in both eosinophilic less argentophilic type. Although not counted, seemed have no apparent advantage over demonstration NFTs.
Cortical microinfarcts (CMIs) observed in brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease tend to be located close vessels afflicted cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). CMIs are preferentially distributed the arterial borderzone, an area most vulnerable hypoperfusion. However, causal association between CAA and remains elucidated. This study consists two parts: (1) observational using postmortem human (n = 31) determine CMIs, (2) experimental whether hypoperfusion worsens induces a mouse model....
To clarify the histopathological alterations of microglia in brains patients with hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy spheroids (HDLS) caused by mutations gene encoding colony stimulating factor-1 receptor (CSF-1R).We examined 5 autopsied and 1 biopsy specimen from a total 6 CSF-1R mutations. Detailed immunohistochemical, biochemical, ultrastructural features were examined, quantitative analyses performed. In layers 3 to 4 frontal cortex HDLS brains, showed relatively uniform delicate...
<i>Background:</i> Although the clinical significance of so-called microbleeds (MBs) in gradient-echo MR images (GRE-MRI) has been extensively researched, histopathological evaluation is notably insufficient. <i>Methods:</i> Postmortem GRE-MRI was obtained water-immersed formalin-fixed tissue blocks from a 97-year-old hypertensive woman with 9 antemortem MBs. Histologic slides were compared those MRI. <i>Results:</i> Microscopic examination revealed...
In this study, we investigated the mechanisms underlying carrageenan-induced chronic pain and therapeutic effect of anti-inflammatory drug meloxicam. Rats were injected with 3 % carrageenan into masseter muscle. These rats exhibited acute hypersensitivity to mechanical stimuli for 6 weeks after injection. Pre-treatment meloxicam prevented hypersensitivity. Furthermore, minocycline dexamethasone, but not acetaminophen, suppressed in phase. Microglial reactivity trigeminal spinal subnucleus...
We present a case in which excessive pressure caused local perfusion failure and decrease peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) readings 10-year-old boy undergoing general anesthesia for cleft lip alveolus operation. The pulse oximeter sensor was placed on his left index finger held place using adhesive tape before the induction of anesthesia. Roughly 90 minutes into operation, SpO became unstable, decreasing rapidly to 85% returning 94% repeatedly. As we suspected problem with sensor, it...
We experimentally and numerically observe synchronization of two semiconductor lasers commonly driven by a chaotic laser subject to optical feedback. Under condition that the relaxation oscillation frequency is matched between response lasers, but mismatched drive we show it possible strongly correlated even when correlation low. also cross responses larger than over wide parameter region.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease in which motor neurons degenerate, resulting muscle atrophy, paralysis, and fatality. Studies using mouse models of ALS indicate protracted period development with progressive neuron pathology, evident as early embryonic postnatal stages. Key missing information includes concomitant alterations the sensorimotor circuit essential for normal function neuromuscular system. Leveraging unique brainstem circuitry, we show vitro...
Two middle-aged patients with motor neuron disease showed common eye movement disorders and intellectual impairment in the later stage of illness. Eye were characterized by slow saccades vertical glaze palsy, which seemed to be supranuclear ophthalmoplegia. Neuropathological examination one patient revealed degeneration substantia nigra without pathological changes ocular nuclei, addition findings compatible disease. These cases appear raise a possibility distinct group multiple system degenerations.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness self-expanding nitinol stents for palliative treatment malignant colorectal obstruction caused by unresectable extrinsic tumor, metastasis, or peritoneal seeding. One covered stent and 10 uncovered were deployed in eight patients with due tumor under fluoroscopic guidance. sites located rectum (n = 5), rectosigmoid colon 2), from transverse descending 1). Clinical complications analyzed.Stents placed successfully all patients. Minor...
