Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of axial inflammation. Over time, some patients develop spinal ankylosis and permanent disability; however, current treatment strategies cannot arrest syndesmophyte formation completely. Here, we used mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from AS (AS MSCs) within the enthesis involved in to delineate that HLA-B27–mediated spliced X-box–binding protein 1 (sXBP1)/retinoic acid receptor-β (RARB)/tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) axis accelerated...

Abstract Aim To investigate total and central obesity in ankylosing spondylitis (AS), assess the association with inflammation, disease severity cardiovascular risk factors. Methods There were 105 AS patients enrolled. Anthropometry was measured to determine (body mass index [BMI]) (waist circumference [WC], waist‐to‐height ratio [WHtR]). We evaluated patients’ activity, functional ability, global assessment, physical mobility, radiographic damage health index. Erythrocyte sedimentation...

Patients and without coding newly diagnosed AS from 1999 2013 were assigned non-AS groups, respectively. Primary outcome incidental VHD. In Taiwan, the incidence and prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have risen significantly in recent years. Moreover, data from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) show that more than 85% PsA patients are treated with just non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and/or conventional synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic (csDMARDs). Taiwanese clinicians also expressed concerns regarding uncertainties diagnosis delayed, interrupted, tapered use biologics,...

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) are a specialized subset of DCs capable rapidly producing copious amounts type I IFN (IFN-I) in response to viral infections. The mechanism regulating rapid production IFN-I after pDCs exposed nucleic acids remains elusive. Here, we show that the transcription factor Blimp-1 is promptly induced exposure TLR7 and TLR9 ligands via unique Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate (Rac)-mediated pathway. Deletion Prdm1 gene encoding impaired IFN-I, but not...

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that metformin exhibits an anti-inflammatory effect and may decrease the risk of incidental diabetes. But on Sjögren's syndrome is unknown. The aim study was to examine association between exposure in diabetic patients. Methods: dataset this retrospective cohort obtained from National Health Insurance Research Database (2000-2013) Taiwan. In total, 15,098 type 2 patients under treatment equivalent number without matched for comparison were included....

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 is the genetic marker for ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Here, we generated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from peripheral blood mononuclear of a male AS patient carrying HLA-B27 with syndesmophyte formation by using Sendai-virus delivery system. The resulting iPSCs had normal karyotype, expressed markers, and could differentiate into three germ layers. This cellular model will provide platform studying pathological mechanisms new bone in positive patients.

Abstract Although human leucocyte antigen (HLA)‐B27 is strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), the association of unfolded protein response (UPR) induced by HLA‐B27 misfolding in AS remains controversial. Since dendritic cells (DCs) are crucial induction HLA‐B27‐transgenic rats, and plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) belong to one type DCs, we here aim study relevance pDCs UPR AS. Peripheral were isolated from 27 HLA‐B27(+) patients 37 controls. The bone marrow (BM) synovium inflamed hips...
