The role of remdesivir in the treatment patients hospital with COVID-19 remains ill defined a global context. World Health Organization Solidarity randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluated across many countries, Canada enrolling using an expanded data collection format Canadian Treatments for (CATCO) trial. We report on findings, additional demographics, characteristics and clinical outcomes, to explore potential differential effects different health care systems.

Background: Thoracentesis with cytological examination of pleural fluid is the initial test choice for evaluation effusions in patients suspected malignant effusion (MPE). There limited data on sensitivity thoracentesis stratified by tumor type. A better understanding sensitivities clinical interest, and may guide early appropriate referral biopsy. Objective: The primary objective was cytology...

Background: Diagnosis of sarcoidosis often involves endobronchial biopsy (EBB), but studies have shown varying yields for EBB in suspected sarcoidosis, partly due to differences identifying abnormal mucosa under white light (WL). Narrow band imaging (NBI) may assist the visualization mucosa, its role remains be characterized. Methods: Individuals referred were considered enrollment. Bronchoscopy with both WL and NBI was conducted, followed by EBB. The main objectives characterize...

The routine use of computed tomography and lung cancer screening has increased the incidence peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs). Sampling may be needed for some nodules. Many new technologies are available to improve diagnostic performance bronchoscopy sampling PPLs, but few comparative trials exist. objective this study was compare with radial endobronchial ultrasound (rEBUS) using an ultrathin bronchoscope (BF-MP190F, Olympus) a non-ultrathin bronchoscope, without rapid on-site evaluation...

Pleuroscopy is the test of choice for patients with suspected malignant pleural effusion and negative cytology. Biopsies malignancy are frequently attributed to non-specific pleuritis, which poses a dilemma in known active malignancy, raising concern false-negative result. Our primary objective was determine outcomes who had non-malignant diagnosis on pleuroscopy.Retrospective review all pleuroscopy cases from January 2005 2015 at our institution conducted. were categorized by histopathology...

Background: Population aging and lung cancer screening strategies may lead to an increase in detection of early-stage medical inoperable patients. Pleuroscopy with pleural biopsy has a high sensitivity for malignant effusion (MPE). Because MPEs tend to recur, concurrent diagnosis and treatment of MPE during pleuroscopy is desired. However, proceeding directly at the time requires confidence in on-site diagnosis. Pleural diseases include a spectrum of disorders broadly categorized into pneumothorax and pleural effusion. They often cause pain, breathlessness, cough, reduced quality life. The global burden reflects regional differences in conditions exposures associated with disease, such as smoking, pneumonia, tuberculosis, asbestos, cancer, organ failure. Disease high-income countries is overrepresented given the availability data disease lower-income likely underestimated. In United States, 2016,...

The standard approach to staging of lung cancer in patients with pleural effusion (clinical M1a) is thoracentesis followed by biopsies if the cytologic analysis negative. If biopsy findings are negative, endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration used complete process and, some cases, obtain diagnosis. In this case series we report 7 which a combined procedure was performed for known or suspected cancer. We found that both feasible and safe series.
