Several studies report a higher rate of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTC) in patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT), indicating possible correlation between the two diseases. We studied group 89 subjects undergoing surgery for compared control operated on normofunctioning goiter, and second 47 total thyroidectomy HT. Association HT was found 19 71 PTC (26.7%) 8 goiter (8.9%), which significant difference ( P < 0.02). Thirteen patients, mostly nodular form, showed coexistent (27.6%)....

The association between Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a controversial question that still under debate, its pathological significance the eventual clinical implications of this remaining unclear. The data regarding 305 patients were retrospectively analyzed. divided in two different groups. A first group made up 142 undergoing surgery for differentiated was compared to control analogous subjects operated normofunctioning goiter. second 163 who had...

Objective: To evaluate BRAFV600E mutation on consecutive fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) specimens in order to assess FNAB's usefulness preoperative papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) diagnosis with the contemporaneous analysis of RET/PTC1 and RET/PTC3 rearrangements obtained from ex vivo nodules. Design: Thyroid FNABs 156 subjects nodules 49 corresponding surgical samples were examined for presence BRAF by real-time allele-specific polymerase chain reaction, confirmed use a laser...

Summary Background A major problem in assessing the likelihood of survival patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arises from a lack models capable predicting outcome accurately. Aim To compare ability Italian score (CLIP), French classification (GRETCH) and Barcelona (BCLC) staging system HCC. Methods We included 406 consecutive cirrhosis Seventy‐eight per cent had hepatitis C. Independent predictors were identified using Cox model. Results One‐hundred seventy‐eight treated, while 228...

BRAF V600E is the most common mutation found in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1) and nuclear factor (NF)-κB have been shown to play an important role cancer. In particular, TIMP-1 binds its receptor CD63 on cell surface membrane activates Akt signaling pathway, which eventually responsible for anti-apoptotic activity. The aim our study was evaluate whether interplay among these three factors exists exerts a functional PTCs. To this purpose,...

Forty patients with chemotherapy-related diarrhea were randomized to receive (i) octreotide 0.5 mg three times per day s.c. or (ii) loperamide 4 p.o. until complete remission of was achieved. In the group 80% showed resolution loose bowel movements within days therapy, while in this goal obtained only 30% cases (p < 0.001). If after no benefit seen, considered have failed antidiarrheal therapy. Failure recorded one case (5%) treated and five (25%) who received loperamide. The mean duration...

Secretory mammary carcinoma is a rare breast neoplasia originally described in children but sometimes also found adults. It presents more favourable outcome than common histological types of carcinoma; published literature fact reports only few cases with axillary lymph node metastases and four distant metastases. Background Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy is without doubt a valid method for the detection of sentinel lymph node (SLN). There has been considerable debate regarding optimal site introduction tracer; various sites include peritumoral (PT), periareolar (PA), subdermal, and intradermal injection. Purpose To evaluate retrospectively lymphoscintigraphic identification rate (PT) injection versus subdermal (PA) in SLNs breast cancer. Material Methods Between October 2002 December 2011, cohort...
