Critical species inventories provide primary biodiversity data crucial for biogeographical, ecological, and conservation studies. After six years, a second update to the inventory of vascular flora native Italy is presented. It provides details on occurrence at regional level and, first time, floristic San Marino. The checklist includes 8,241 subspecies, distributed in 1,111 genera 153 families; 23 taxa are lycophytes, 108 ferns fern allies, 30 gymnosperms, 8,080 angiosperms....
Abstract Trait‐based ecology has already revealed main independent axes of trait variation defining spaces that summarize plant adaptive strategies, but often ignoring intraspecific variability (ITV). By using empirical ITV‐level data for two dimensions leaf form and function 167 species across five habitat types (coastal dunes, forests, grasslands, heathlands, wetlands) in the Italian peninsula, we found ITV: (i) rotated define space; (ii) increased variance explained by these (iii)...
The vascular flora of Sardinia has been investigated for more than 250 years, with particular attention to the endemic component due their phylogeographic and conservation interest. However, continuous changes in floristic composition through natural processes, anthropogenic drivers or modified taxonomical attributions require constant updating. We checked all available literature, web sources, field, unpublished data from authors acknowledged external experts compile an updated checklist...
Despite the wide amount of scientific contributions published on alien plant species, their diffusion dynamics, and interactions with native taxa, it is increasingly difficult to slow down spreading negative impact habitats. Last recent years, in fact, a sharp rise number new taxa introduced Italy Europe has been recorded. The aim this work investigate most Italian territory order verify whether alarming trend still underway. Specimen collections and/or observations plants have performed as...
A single paragraph of about 200 words maximum. For research articles, abstracts should give a pertinent overview the work. We strongly encourage authors to use following style structured abstracts, but without headings: (1) Background: Place question addressed in broad context and highlight purpose study; (2) Methods: briefly describe main methods or treatments applied; (3) Results: summarize article’s findings; (4) Conclusions: indicate conclusions interpretations. The abstract be an...

Understanding the abiotic factors influencing biodiversity patterns on Earth is a crucial task for conservation scientists. At regional level, meso-climate factors, primarily associated with elevational gradients, are of great importance. However, disentangling these can be challenging due to influence other variables, such as geological substrata. To address this issue and better understand it essential study geologically homogeneous terrains, particularly in Mediterranean islands where...
Taxonomical investigations on Solenopsis corsica occurring in Corsica and Sardinia revealed that it represents a species complex, within which some morphologically well distinct taxa can be recognized. The surveyed populations are closely related among them, especially for the habit, with very small leaf hairy rosettes, small-sized flowers divaricate corolla lips. Apart from S. s.str., widely spread Corsica, other two new species, differentiated recognized, they are: limbarae corriasii, both...
