Abstract The conservation of species listed in the Bern Convention and European Directive 1992/43/EEC (so-called policy species) is mandatory for Union (EU) countries. We assessed status Italian species, based on IUCN categories criteria, to evaluate effectiveness existing protection measures at national level. Among 203 vascular plants, bryophytes lichens evaluated, 41.9% are categorized as threatened, one already extinct, indicating that inadequate. Our results consistent with those an...

We evaluated the utility of core barcode regions (matK and rbcL) plastid intergenic spacer trnH-psbA to distinguish between Thymus spp. This is a taxonomically complex group that has been investigated so far mainly using morphological approaches. Thirty-six samples representing nine different morphospecies were collected used for molecular analysis. The three markers showed clear amplification sequencing. However, genetic variation resulting haplotype networks only capitatus forms...

Digital data concerning the flora of Italy are largely fragmented among different resources hosted on platforms, and often with standards, which neither connected by a common access point, nor web services, thus constituting relevant obstacle to usage. Taxonomic incongruences add further complication.
