An updated inventory of the native vascular flora Italy, providing details on occurrence at regional level, is presented. The checklist includes 8195 taxa (6417 species and 1778 subspecies), distributed in 1092 genera 152 families; 23 are lycophytes, 108 ferns fern allies, 30 gymnosperms 8034 angiosperms. currently occurring Italy 7483, while 568 have not been confirmed recent times, 99 doubtfully country 19 data deficient. Out taxa, 26 considered extinct or possibly extinct.
An updated inventory of the vascular flora alien to Italy, providing details on occurrence at regional level, is presented. The checklist includes 1597 species, subspecies, and hybrids, distributed in 725 genera 152 families; 2 taxa are lycophytes, 11 ferns fern allies, 33 gymnosperms, 1551 angiosperms. 157 archaeophytes 1440 neophytes. currently established Italy 791 (570 naturalized 221 invasive), while 705 casual aliens, 4 not assessed, 7 unknown distribution, 47 have been confirmed...
Abstract In this paper we present a comprehensive inventory of the non‐native vascular flora Italy, which was produced within project “A survey Italian flora”, funded by Ministry for Environment. Previously published floristic accounts were main source information. Historical records critically revised and integrated with recent literature, data from herbaria some unpublished information, so as to obtain complete, up‐to‐date catalogue plant species that occur spontaneously in Italy. The...
Critical species inventories provide primary biodiversity data crucial for biogeographical, ecological, and conservation studies. After six years, a second update to the inventory of vascular flora native Italy is presented. It provides details on occurrence at regional level and, first time, floristic San Marino. The checklist includes 8,241 subspecies, distributed in 1,111 genera 153 families; 23 taxa are lycophytes, 108 ferns fern allies, 30 gymnosperms, 8,080 angiosperms....
Critical and updated alien species inventories are crucial to properly manage contrast biological invasions. After 6 years, a second update the inventory of vascular flora Italy is presented. It provides details on occurrence at administrative regional level and, for first time, floristic data San Marino. The checklist includes 1782 taxa (1673 species, 28 subspecies, 69 hybrids 12 cultivar groups not attributable specific binomial), distributed in 786 genera 159 families; 2 lycophytes, 13...
The census of the loci classici 1,400 Italian endemic vascular plants (i.e. not thriving elsewhere with exception Corsica and Malta) is here presented described. effective place publication accepted names, basionyms homotypic synonyms were identified critically verified. This often resulted in some change authorship attribution and, seven cases, validation problems (Asperula cynanchica var. lactea nov., A. comb. Biscutella laevigata subsp. raffaelliana Ferulago nodosa geniculata & stat....
Abstract. A high-resolution pollen record from Lago Trifoglietti in Calabria (southern Italy) provides new insights into the paleoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic changes which characterise Holocene period southern Italy. The chronology is based on 11 AMS radiocarbon dates terrestrial organic material. history of vegetation cover shows persistence an important relatively stable Fagus forest present over that entire period, offering a rare example beech woodstand able to withstand climate for...
Abstract"The New Red List of the Italian Flora" includes all policy species and other known conservation concerns for a total 400 taxa, 65% which are threatened with extinction. The census of the loci classici 1,227 native, non-endemic vascular plants described from Italy is here presented and described. effective place publication accepted names, basionyms homotypic synonyms were identified critically verified. geographic information on was excerpted protologues, as well typification for taxa before 1 January 1958. names without a holotype are 1,165. For 591 lecto- or neo-typification available in literature, while 572 currently still need type designation. ten...
Abstract Questions Do vascular plant species richness and beta‐diversity differ between managed structurally complex unmanaged stands? To what extent do relate to forest structural attributes heterogeneity? Location Five national parks in central southern Italy. Methods We sampled composition eight temperate mesic stands dominated or co‐dominated by beech, comparison as high forests with similar environmental features. compared richness, across pairs of (unmanaged vs managed) using GLMM s....
This paper considers the demography, ecology, and conservation perspectives of western populations clonal dwarf-shrub Sarcopoteriumspinosum (L.) Spach. While in Middle East species dominates large areas, westwards it is less common many have become extinct since late 19th century. We highlight ecological limitations their implications for at periphery its range. In southern Italy we studied demographic traits two age spatial structure a third. Ramet density lifespan appear to be lower than...
In this contribution, new data concerning the distribution of native vascular flora in Italy are presented. It includes records, confirmations and status changes to Italian administrative regions for taxa genera Alchemilla , Arundo Bupleurum Clematis Clinopodium Cota Crassula Cytisus Euphorbia Hieracium Isoëtes Lamium Leontodon Linaria Lychnis Middendorfia Ophrys Philadelphus Pinus Sagina Sedum Taeniatherum Tofieldia Triticum Veronica Vicia . Spatial shifts in insect fauna due to ecological heterogeneity can severely constrain plant reproduction. Nonetheless, data showing effects of visit patterns and intensity mutualistic and/or antagonistic plant–insect interactions on reproduction over structured gradients remain scarce. We investigated how changes flower-visitor abundance, identity behaviour a forest-open habitat gradient affect biotic interactions, quantitative qualitative fitness the edge-specialist Dianthus balbisii....
Abstract European wild carnations ( Dianthus ) are represented by a high number of taxa organized in unresolved taxonomies. In particular, belonging to the virgineus L. complex Central Mediterranean have been delimited mainly with qualitative morphological data and still await quantitative investigations, which vital understand boundaries relations among plant diversity groups. Here, we examine phenotypic features nuclear genome organization testing for species this complex. We studied...
Abstract Defining species boundaries within plant groups distributed along wide elevational and geographic gradients may lead to unstable taxonomic delimitations using morphological data only. Within the taxonomically challenging genus Dianthus , through an integrative approach we tested value of D. brachycalyx a putative endemic mountain peaks central‐southern Apennines, with respect widespread central‐Mediterranean virgineus . We measured 30 characters in 452 individuals from 25...
Abstract In Mediterranean mountains, the abandonment of traditional land-uses is promoting a rapid forest expansion. This trend may be exacerbated by nature reserves, which further limit human disturbance in mountain contexts. We investigated whether ecological parameters, landscape structure, and management policy influenced vegetation cover/dynamics over 14-year period Pollino National Park, large protected area southern Italy. Based on remote sensed field data we obtained land-cover maps...

It includes records and confirmations to Italian administrative regions for taxa genera Allium , Arabis Campanula Centaurea Chaerophyllum Crocus Dactylis Dianthus Festuca Galanthus Helianthemum Lysimachia Milium Pteris Quercus . Nomenclature updates, published elsewhere, corrections provided as supplementary material.

Abstract The yellow carnation Dianthus guliae Janka is a rare endemic of the Italian peninsula. As numerous extinctions have occurred in past, very few populations are still present. Two years field surveys revealed high mortality and an absence recruitment southernmost this species. Work botanical garden, under semi‐natural conditions, occurrence proterandrous hermaphroditism self‐compatibility. durable flower lifespan, competitive effects among flowers different outcomes from spontaneous...

The knowledge of the genetic architecture closely related species and/or populations a single can be very useful to shed light on processes that led their current distributions. present study provides preliminary evaluation conservation status Cryptotaenia thomasii, narrow endemic occurring in southern Italy. Previous studies showed C. thomasii was phylogenetically flahaultii, Caucasus, and evaluate its variability plant internal transcribed spacers (ITSs) nuclear ribosomal DNA were...
