Objective: To study and profile the digital assessment behaviors of surgical faculty residents, to build a classifier predict completion, enhancing formative feedback initiatives. Background: As competency-based paradigms are integrated into training, developing education tools for measuring competency providing rapid is crucial. Simply making assessments available inadequate results in disappointingly low user participation. optimize engagement efficacy these tools, need be studied....
The impact of hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA) temperature on postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) has not been evaluated. This study examined the association between temperatures and AKI in patients undergoing proximal aortic surgery with HCA.A total 759 consecutive who underwent (ascending ± valve root) including arch replacement requiring HCA July 2005 December 2016 were identified from a prospectively maintained institutional database. primary outcome was as defined by Risk,...
ManageMySurgery (MMS) is a digital health application (app) for patients undergoing surgery, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). Patients using MMS review procedure-specific education, view FAQs, and report patient-reported outcomes. This study assessed the impact of app use on postoperative
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as an alternative treatment option for patients with severe stenosis regardless of surgical risk, particularly in those a high and prohibitive risk. Since the advent TAVR, transfemoral access been standard care. However, given comorbidities anatomical limitations, proportion are not good candidates approach. Alternative access, including transapical, transaortic, transaxillary, transsubclavian, transcarotid, transcaval, can be...
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine early lung transplant outcomes following EVLP using a large national registry. Summary Background Data: Lung transplantation in the United States continues be constrained by limited supply donor organs. has potential significantly increase available pool allografts through reconditioning “marginal” Methods: united network for organ sharing registry queried all adults (age ≥18) who underwent first-time between March 2018 (when began...
Despite abundant evidence indicating that digital health solutions improve outcomes in chronic medical conditions, there are few validated for acute surgical episodes. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a less invasive alternative to open surgery becoming more prevalent. We assessed the feasibility of ManageMySurgery (MMS), smartphone application combines patient education and tracking patients undergoing TAVR procedures.MMS was offered receiving at an academic center. Pre-...
Abstract OBJECTIVES The Hemispherical Aortic Annuloplasty Reconstructive Technology (HAART) ring is a rigid, internal and geometric device. objective of this article to assess the mid-term outcomes aortic valve repair (AVr) using prosthesis. METHODS A prospectively maintained database was used obtain for adult patients undergoing AVr HAART between September 2017 June 2023. All at our institution undergo life-long surveillance with regular assessment imaging. RESULTS Seventy-one underwent...
Since the late 1990 s, there has been an unprecedented growth in development of new molecular and proteomic assays for clinical decision making. Despite thousands tests available, a standardized, well-defined, coherent evaluation framework these is still lacking. We aim to summarize publicly available appraisal criteria develop succinct accessible set that can provide roadmap gene-based laboratory developed (LDTs). conducted systematic literature review diagnostic PubMed MD CINAHL identified...
Aortic insufficiency (AI) is common in patients with proximal aortic disease, but limited options exist to facilitate valve repair (AVr) this population. This study reports 'real-world' early results of AVr using newly FDA-approved trileaflet and bicuspid geometric annuloplasty rings for AI undergoing (PAR) a single referral centre. All rigid internal ring (n = 47) conjunction PAR (ascending +/- root arch) were included. Thirty-six underwent ring, 11 ring. The implanted the subannular...
We present the case of a 41-year-old female who underwent bilateral lung transplantation after donor lungs were placed on normothermic ex vivo perfusion and ventilation device flown nearly 5000 miles from Honolulu, Hawaii to Durham, North Carolina. The patient experienced no primary graft dysfunction. One year she has remained rejection-free exhibits excellent pulmonary function. This highlights challenge that active organ preservation systems pose questions allocation geographic sharing.
Little is known about how existing electronic health records (EHRs) influence the practice of pediatric medicine. A total 808 pediatricians participated in a survey workflows using EHR. The EHR was most commonly used source initial patient information. Seventy-two percent reported requiring between 2 and 10 minutes to complete an review Several moderately severe information barriers were regarding display Pediatricians acquire new patients from EHRs more often than any other source. play...
