DNA microarray covering the whole genome of Staphylococcus aureus strain N315 was prepared to investigate transcription profiles. The analyses revealed that vancomycin induces 139 genes. Forty-six genes among them failed be induced in vraSR null mutant KVR. Part regulated by VraSR system is associated with cell-wall biosynthesis, such as PBP2, SgtB and MurZ. Other synthesis inhibitors also VraSR, suggesting sensor kinase VraS responds damage structure or inhibition biosynthesis....
This paper briefly describes sodium sulfur (NAS) battery development with emphasis on the program to establish technology for use of a β‐alumina solid electrolyte. Since mid‐1980s, NGK INSULATORS, LTD. (NGK) and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) have jointly conducted NAS in Japan and, April 2003, launched production commercial scale. A critical aspect has been achieving low resistance flow ions through electrolyte while ensuring material properties consistent high mechanical strength, as...
Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) affects the quality of life (QOL) survivors critical illness. Although PICS persists for a long time, longitudinal changes in each component and their interrelationships over time both remain unclear. This multicenter prospective study investigated 2-year trajectory its components as well factors contributing to deterioration or recovery mechanically ventilated patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), also attempted identify possible...
BackgroundEvidence of post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) in the Alpha- and Delta-variant dominant waves is limited.MethodsIn a nationwide multicentre cohort study collaboration with 20 hospitals, we collected data using self-administered questionnaires electronic medical records participants aged or more diagnosed COVID-19, hospitalized between Apr 1 2021 Sept 30 2021, discharged alive. Descriptive statistics were analyzed for PCC mental health (HADS anxiety depression scores), comparing Alpa...
Background/Objectives: This study investigated the prevalence of functional impairments and effects long COVID on long-term in patients with severe COVID-19. Methods: We conducted a nationwide multicenter cohort collaboration nine hospitals, collecting data using self-administered questionnaires from participants aged 20 years or older who were diagnosed COVID-19, admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) between April 2021 September 2021, discharged alive. Questionnaires regarding daily life,...
Abstract Background Elderly patients have a blunted host response, which may influence vital signs and clinical outcomes of sepsis. This study was aimed to investigate whether the associations between mortality are different in elderly non-elderly with Methods retrospective observational study. A Japanese multicenter sepsis cohort (FORECAST, n = 1148) used for discovery analyses. Significant results were tested replication using two validation cohorts (JAAMSR, Japan, 624; SPH, Canada, 1004)....
Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) is an emerging problem in critically ill patients and the prevalence risk factors are unclear with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This multicenter prospective observational study aimed to investigate of PICS ventilated COVID-19 after ICU discharge.Questionnaires were administered twice surviving who had required mechanical ventilation, concerning Barthel Index, Short-Memory Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale scores. The for...
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is associated with a wide range of post-acute sequelae. The prevalence erectile dysfunction (ED) that developed after COVID-19 and the underlying factors were analyzed based on questionnaire survey, Recovery Study II in Japan. A case-control study was conducted those or without ED one two years hospitalized between March September 2021. Six hundred nine Japanese men, median age 48 years, analyzed. During period, 116 subjects (19.0%) had dysfunction....
Objective: To implement early rehabilitation interventions by physical therapists is recommended. However, the effectiveness of for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in prevention post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) unclear. We analyzed a multicenter prospective observational study (Post-Intensive Care outcomeS with COronaVIrus Disease 2019) to examine association between and PICS impairment. Methods: An analysis was performed on COVID-19 who were admitted intensive units...
Abstract Background Patients with critical illness may present disease‐related malnutrition upon intensive care unit (ICU) admission. They are at risk of development and progression over the disease trajectory because inflammation, dysregulated metabolism, challenges feeding. Methods The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) convened a panel 36 clinical nutrition experts to develop consensus‐based guidance statements addressing diagnosis during using modified Delphi approach...

They are at risk of development and progression over the disease trajectory because inflammation, dysregulated metabolism, challenges feeding. Methods to calculate energy expenditure (EE) based on CO2 measurements (EEVCO2) have been proposed as a surrogate indirect calorimetry. This study aimed at evaluating whether EEVCO2 could be considered an alternative EE measured by Indirect calorimetry conducted for clinical purposes 278 mechanically ventilated ICU patients were retrospectively analyzed. was calculated converted Weir's equation using consumption (VCO2) and assumed respiratory quotients (RQ): 0.85 (EEVCO2_0.85) food quotient...
Exacerbated inflammatory response is considered one of the key elements acute kidney injury (AKI). Interleukin-6 (IL-6) an cytokine that plays important roles in and may be useful for predicting clinical outcomes patients with AKI. However, supporting evidence adapted to current KDIGO criteria lacking.
Purpose The final decision for discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU) is uncertain because it made according to various patient parameters; however, should be on an objective evaluation. Previous reports have been inconsistent and unreliable in predicting post-ICU mortality. To identify predictive factors associated with mortality, we analyzed physiological laboratory data at ICU discharge. Methods Patients admitted our between September 2012 August 2013 staying critical care>2 days...
Although fluid resuscitation is critical in acute pancreatitis, the optimal volume unknown. The aim of this study to evaluate association between administered and clinical outcomes patients with severe pancreatitis (SAP).We conducted a multicenter retrospective at 44 institutions Japan. Inclusion criteria were age 18 years or older, diagnosed SAP from 2009 2013. Patients stratified into 2 groups: <6000 ≥6000 mL first 24 hours. We evaluated groups using multivariable logistic regression...
