An experimental determination of the thermodynamic stabilities a series amyloid fibrils reveals that this structural form is likely to be most stable one protein molecules can adopt even under physiological conditions. This result challenges conventional assumption functional forms proteins correspond global minima in their free energy surfaces and suggests living systems are conformationally as well chemically metastable.

The intriguing properties of two‐dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) have led to a significant body fundamental research and rapid uptake these materials in many applications. Specifically, 2D TMDCs shown great potential biological systems due their tunable electronic characteristics, unique optical properties, stability aqueous environments, large surface area that can be manipulated functionalized as well an intercalatable layered structure, low levels toxicity. Here,...

Caseins are a unique and diverse group of proteins present in bovine milk. While their function is presumed to be primarily nutritional, caseins have remarkable ability stabilize proteins, i.e., inhibit protein aggregation precipitation, that comparable molecular chaperones the small heat-shock (sHsp) family. Additionally, sHsps been shown formation amyloid fibrils. This study investigated (i) fibril-forming propensities casein mixture, sodium caseinate, (ii) prevent vitro fibril by...

Cryo scanning electron microscopy (cryo SEM) and confocal laser (CLSM) were used to visualise changes in the microstructure of milk, rennet-induced gel curd during manufacture Cheddar cheese. Our results show that cryo preservation did not alter sample when it was fixed by rapid freezing slush liquid nitrogen due formation amorphous ice. Artefacts such as ice crystals could be observed samples immersed directly into (−196 °C) at atmospheric pressure. These changed shape pores increasing...

Competing models exist in the literature for relationship between mutant Huntingtin exon 1 (Httex1) inclusion formation and toxicity. In one, inclusions are adaptive by sequestering proteotoxicity of soluble Httex1. other, compromise cellular activity as a result proteome co-aggregation. Using biosensor Httex1 conformation mammalian cell models, we discovered mechanism that reconciles these competing models. Newly formed were composed disordered ribonucleoproteins. As matured, reconfigured...

Abstract Whey is a by-product of cheese, casein, and yogurt manufacture. It contains mixture proteins that need to be isolated purified fully exploit their nutritional functional characteristics. Protein-enriched fractions highly derived from whey have led the production valuable ingredients for many important food pharmaceutical applications. This article provides review on separation principles behind both commercial emerging techniques used protein fractionation, as well efficacy...

Amino acid-based core cross-linked star (CCS) polymers (poly(l-lysine)armpoly(l-cystine)core) with peripheral allyl functionalities were synthesized by sequential ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides (NCAs) via the arm-first approach, using N-(trimethylsilyl)allylamine as initiator. Subsequent functionalization a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)–folic conjugate thiol–ene click chemistry afforded poly(PEG-b-l-lysine)armpoly(l-cystine)core stars outer PEG coronas...

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has the theoretical possibility of detecting chemicals at single molecular level. This potential is frequently limited, however, by critical requirements surface morphology and mechanical stability SERS substrates. In this paper, we report a new method for fabricating substrate with significantly improved analytical sensitivity, using cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). We constructed uniformly CNFs-textured on glass means...
