Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder associated with inborn errors of steroid metabolism. 21-hydroxylase enzyme deficiency occurs in 90 to 95% all cases CAH, accumulation 17 hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP). Early diagnosis CAH based on newborn screening possible before the development symptoms and allows proper treatment, correct sex assignment, reduced mortality rates. This study describes results obtained first year a public program state Rio Grande do Sul,...

The aim of the present study was to investigate association between HPV-DNA and micronucleus (MN) frequency in women with normal cervical cytology. A total 158 smears were analyzed cytologically. HPV genome amplified using GP5+/bioGP6+ consensus primers. high-risk types 16, 18, 31, 33, 39, 45 59 also investigated. Of samples, 20 (12.7%) 47 (29.7%) positive for MN, respectively. Evidence MN found 11 out (55%) samples 36 138 (26.1%) negative ones. presence significantly higher (p = 0.016). On...

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) isolates have been divided into six genotypes (1 to 6). The duration of hepatitis standard treatment is 48 weeks for patients infected with HCV genotype 1 vs 24 those 2 and 3. A total 1544 from chronic living in the southern Brazilian states Rio Grande do Sul (RS, n = 627) Santa Catarina (SC, 917) were genotyped by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products. This study investigates the frequency of Torque teno virus (TTV) infection in 150 blood donors and 77 patients requiring haemodialysis southern Brazil. Plasma samples were screened for TTV DNA using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The prevalences among 73.3% 68.8%, respectively. presence was correlated with age (p = 0.024). In patients, no association found between demographic parameters (age, sex education), duration or a history transfusion. is first to evaluate prevalence Brazilian haemodialysis.

To describe the results obtained in a neonatal screening program after its implementation and to assess clinical molecular profiles of confirmed suspicious congenital adrenal hyperplasia cases. A cross-sectional study was conducted. Newborns with suspected disease due high 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels adjusted for birth weight were selected. Classical (salt-wasting simple virilizing forms) diagnosed by an increase as retest, evaluation, genotype determined SNaPshot multiplex...
