The bulky diphosphine 1,3-[(di-t-butylphosphino)methyl]benzene undergoes metallation very readily to give a new type of tridentate chelating system, 2,6-bis[(di-t-butylphosphino)methyl]phenyl (pcp). Complexes prepared are the types [MX(pcp)](M = Ni, Pd, or Pt; X Cl, Br, H, C⋮CPh, CN; M Rh, CO), [MHCl(pcp)](M Rh Ir), and [IrHCl(CO)(pcp)]. [Ni(CO)(pcp)][BPh4] was also prepared. 1H- 31P- n.m.r. data i.r. given.
Breast cancer is the most prevalent in American women. Dietary factors are thought to have a strong influence on breast incidence. This study utilized meal-feeding protocol with female Sprague-Dawley rats evaluate effects of two ratios carbohydrate:protein promotion and early progression tissue carcinomas. Mammary tumors were induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) at 52 d age. Post-induction, animals assigned consume either low protein high carbohydrate diet (LPHC; 15% 60% energy,...
Leucine (Leu) regulates muscle protein synthesis (MPS) producing dose-dependent plasma Leu and MPS responses from free amino acid solutions. This study examined the role of content dietary proteins in regulation after complete meals. Experiment 1 4 sources (wheat, soy, egg, whey) with different concentrations (6.8, 8.0, 8.8, 10.9% (w/w), respectively) on potential to increase Leu, activate translation factors, stimulate MPS. Male rats (~250 g) were trained for 14 day eat 3 meals/day...

Muscle protein synthesis (MPS) increases after consumption of a protein-containing meal but returns to baseline values within 3 h despite continued elevations plasma amino acids and mammalian target rapamycin (mTORC1) signaling. This study evaluated the potential for supplemental leucine (Leu), carbohydrates (CHO), or both prolong elevated MPS meal. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (∼270 g) trained consume three meals daily were food deprived 12 h, then blood gastrocnemius muscle collected 0, 90,...
Macular pigment optical density (MPOD) - a non-invasive indicator of retinal xanthophylls and correlate brain lutein has been associated with superior cognitive function among adult populations. Given that accumulation in the occurs early life, it is possible implications greater MPOD may be evident childhood.Participants aged 8-9 years (n = 56) completed measurements via heterochromatic flicker photometry. Academic performance was assessed using Kaufman Test Educational Achievement II...

Animal experiments and cross-sectional or prospective longitudinal research in human subjects suggest a role for nutrition cognitive ageing. However, data from randomised controlled trials (RCT) that seek causal evidence the impact of nutrients on ageing humans often produce null results. Given RCT test hypotheses rigorous fashion, one conclusion could be positive effects aged brain observed other study designs are spurious. On hand, it may design many clinical conducted thus far has been...
Improved routes to the fluxional cyclometallated hydride [[graphic omitted]But2)] are reported. Treatment of this with carbon monoxide and sodium tetraphenylborate in methanol gives salt omitted]But2)][Bph4], together a small amount 16-atom ring complex, trans-[Rh2Cl2(CO)2{But2P(CH2)5PBut2)2], more readily prepared by treating [Rh2Cl2(CO)4] diphosphine. This complex exists as two rotamers solution at 25 °C. Although propan-2-oxide on other hand corresponding similar treatment mixture...
Previous research demonstrates that the anabolic response of muscle protein synthesis (MPS) to a meal is regulated at level translation initiation with signals derived from leucine (Leu) and insulin activate mTORC1 signaling. Recent evidence suggests duration limited by energy status cell inhibition elongation factor 2 (eEF2). This study evaluates potential extend post-meal supplements Leu or carbohydrates. Adult (~256 g) male Sprague-Dawley rats were food deprived for 12 h, then either...

Abstract Current theory on the influence of breast cancer bone describes metastasis tumor cells to tissue, followed by induction osteoclasts and degradation. Tumor influences health in pre- or nonmetastatic models are unknown. Female rats (n = 48, 52 days old) were injected with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) induce cancer. Animals euthanized 10 weeks later, tumors weighed classified histologically. Right femurs extracted for testing mineral density (BMD) dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA),...
The β-ketophosphines PBut2(CH2COR)(R = Ph or But) have been prepared by treating the α-bromoketones BrCH2COR with PBut2H and subsequent treatment base. With hydrated nickel(II) chloride, complexes of type trans-[graphic ommitted], in which nickel is chelated tertiary phosphine enolate ion, are formed rapidly. In contrast, [PdCl2(NCPh)2] [PtCl2(NCPh)2] these β-ketophosphines, even on prolonged boiling alcohols, give trans-[MCl2{PBut2(CH2COR)}2]. However, when chlorocomplexes treated sodium...
