Natural abundance carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonances (NMR) from human arm and rat tissues have been observed in vivo. These signals arise primarily triglycerides fatty tissue. Carbon-13 NMR was also used to follow, a living rat, the conversion of C-1-labeled glucose, which introduced into stomach, liver glycogen. The sensitivity resolution obtained shows that natural will be valuable study disorders fat metabolism, experiments with substrates labeled can carbohydrate metabolism
This paper extends existing understandings of how actors' constructions ambiguity shape the emergent process strategic action. We theoretically elaborate role rhetoric in exploiting ambiguity, based on analysis a longitudinal case study an internationalization strategy within business school. Our data show that actors use to construct three types ambiguity: protective appeals common values order protect particular interests, invitational invite participation actions, and adaptive enables...
The literature on ambiguity reflects contradictory views its value as a resource or problem for organizational action. In this longitudinal empirical study of about strategic goal, we examined how is used discursive by different constituents and that associated with collective action around the goal. We found four rhetorical positions, each which drew upon to construct goal differently according whether various were asserting their own interests accommodating wider interests. However, also...
Purpose The shopper journey can cross a number of channels leading up to the point possible purchase, which may be unseen by retailer or brand for targeted purchase. purpose this paper is gain greater understanding decision making and purchase intention activity online Millennial shoppers in deciding what fashion garments buy digital retail environment. also investigates use technology social media involvement Design/methodology/approach In line with other studies that investigated behaviour...
This paper examines changes in gender relations a small coastal community as result of the 2010 Chile earthquake and tsunami. Vulnerability resilience are used conceptual framework to analyse these changes. Based on empirical evidence from seven-year longitudinal study quasi-ethnographic work, we explore power at different stages disaster longer-term recovery well conditions that fostered Our findings show distinct patterns change. First, disasters can trigger long-lasting challenge...
A multilocus sequence typing (MLST) scheme was devised for Aspergillus fumigatus. The system involved sequencing seven gene fragments and applied to a panel of 100 isolates A. fumigatus from diverse sources. Thirty different types were found among the isolates, 93% differed other by only one allele sequence, forming single clonal cluster as indicated eBURST algorithm. discriminatory power MLST method 0.93. These results strongly indicate that is species relatively recent origin, with low...
The 31P-NMR spectra of living tumours (Walker 256 carcinosarcomas) have been obtained using surface coils and found to be unlike those normal tissues. Contrary expectations, their intracellular pH (measured from the chemical shift inorganic phosphate peak) was only slightly more acid than that rat muscle, glucose infusion did not depress it. However, when deoxyglucose infused, tumour measured deoxyglucose-6-phosphate peak much lower (6.44 +/- 0.02) (7.14 0.01).
Purpose To consider the role of technology in knowledge management organizations, both actual and desired. Design/methodology/approach Facilitated, computer‐supported group workshops were conducted with 78 people from ten different organizations. The objective each workshop was to review current state that organization develop an action plan for future. Findings Only three organizations had adopted a strongly technology‐based “solution” problems, these followed substantially routes. There...
Purpose To construct, test and illustrate a sophisticated theory‐based architecture for analyzing business process management systems (BPMS) used change. Design/methodology/approach Exploration of modeling‐based BPMS via meta‐survey academic literatures. Two main dimensions are based upon semiotics block‐based pyramid architecture. Each block is core technology required the functioning include: subject being modeled; software formalism; IT infrastructure; modeling language notation;...
Estimates of voter turnout indicate that African Americans cast ballots at unprecedented rates in the 2008 presidential election. Given presence first Black major party nominee, this should be no surprise. But were heightened interest, efficacy, and a sense racial identity due to candidacy Barack Obama main factors contributing surge turnout? Using data from 1984 1996 National Election Studies American Study, which contains stratified random over-sample blacks, we argue mobilization was...
This article focuses on the involvement and management of spontaneous volunteers (SVs). It develops a new theory—which we call “involvement/exclusion” paradox—about situation which is frequently manifested when SVs converge in times disaster. After reviewing research policy guidance relating to volunteering, present findings from study responses winter flood episodes England. Taking together empirical literature, analyzes elements inherent involvement/exclusion paradox conceptual model...
