The recognition of pathogen-derived structures by C-type lectins and the chemotactic activity mediated CCL2/CCR2 axis are critical steps in determining host immune response to fungi. present study was designed investigate whether presence single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within DC-SIGN, Dectin-1, Dectin-2, CCL2 CCR2 genes influence risk developing Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis (IPA). Twenty-seven SNPs were selected using a hybrid functional/tagging approach genotyped 182...

Cases of West Nile neuroinvasive disease (WNND) in Spain increased summer 2020. Here we report on this increase and the local, regional national public health measures taken response. We analysed data from surveillance networks National Epidemiological Surveillance Network, both for human animal virus (WNV) infection. During 2020 season, a total 77 cases WNV infection (median age 65 years; 60% males) were detected south-west Spain; 72 (94%) these developed WNND, presenting as...

West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu (USUV) circulate in several European Union (EU) countries. The risk of transfusion-transmitted (TT-WNV) has been recognized, preventive blood safety measures have implemented. We summarized the applied interventions EU countries assessed supply by compiling data on WNV positivity among donors reported TT-WNV cases. paucity infections screening results suggest that are effective. However, limited circulation presumed underrecognition or underreporting cases...

We compared the performance of SARS-CoV-2 neutralising antibody testing between 12 European laboratories involved in convalescent plasma trials. Raw titres differed almost 100-fold differences when blind-testing 15 samples. Calibration relation to reference reagent and standard curve obtained by a dilution series reduced inter-laboratory variability ca 10-fold. The harmonisation quantification is vital step towards determining protective therapeutic levels antibodies.

Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is primarily secreted by monocytes/macrophages and activated T lymphocytes in response to fungal infections. TNF acts through receptor 1 (TNFR1) triggering a pro-inflammatory response, therefore plays pivotal role immune regulation host responses. We hypothesized that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) TNFR1 gene may influence the innate against Aspergillus. Three SNPs were genotyped 275 individuals (144 immunocompromised haematological patients with...

Of the sandfly fever viruses known to be human pathogens (serotypes Toscana [TOS], Sicilian [SFS], and Naples [SFN]), only TOS has demonstrated neurotropic activity. Infections by have been reported in Mediterranean countries, but virus was previously isolated Italy Portugal. We 15 strains of between 1988 1996 from cerebrospinal fluid patients with acute aseptic meningitis Granada, Spain. This finding led us study presence antibodies TOS, SFS, SFN 1,181 adults 87 children different regions...

Estimates of the risk transfusion-transmitted viral infections are essential for monitoring safety blood supply. The aim present study was to estimate residual blood-borne in Spain.Incidence rates seroconversion HIV, HBV, and HCV were calculated among 673,018 persons who donated more than once (repeat donors), from 1997 through 1999 at 22 donation centers (for a total 2,464,964 allogeneic donations 1,052,752 person-years).Incidence per 100,000 person-years their 95-percent CIs as follows:...

Estimates of the risk bloodborne viral infections are essential for monitoring safety blood supply and impact new screening tests. Incidence rates seroconversion residual HBV, HIV HCV were calculated among Spanish repeat donors between 1997 1999 at 22 donation centres, 7 centres 2000 2002. The per million donations was estimated to be 18.67 2.49 10.96 (between 1999). For 2000-2002 period, 9.78 2.48 3.94 HCV. Between 2003, about 3.4 tested by NAT, mainly in pools 44 donations, 12...

In Andalusia, Spain, West Nile virus (WNV) surveillance takes place from April to November, during the active vector period. Within this area seroconversion was evidenced in wild birds 2004, affecting horses and two humans for first time 2010. Since 2010, has been isolated every year horses, national regional plans have updated with epidemiological changes found. WNV is spreading rapidly throughout southern Europe caused outbreaks humans. Here we describe second outbreak three confirmed...
