To assess the quality of antifungal use, to propose a point score for this evaluation and estimate potential economic savings an stewardship programme. From December 2010 January 2011, we identified 100 adult inpatients receiving systemic antifungals. Antifungal use was evaluated by means predefined that considered indication, drug selection, dosage, adjustments after microbiology results, switching oral agent length treatment. ABSTRACT Little information is available about pediatric infections caused by extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli . We characterized an outbreak a CTX-M-14-producing E. isolate in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and studied other ESBL-producing non-NICU units. All children ≤4 years old who were infected or colonized isolates between January 2009 September 2010 included. Molecular epidemiology was phylogroup analysis, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE),...

Newborns are rarely infected by extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing members of the Enterobacteriaceae. In a neonatal intensive care unit, 14 newborns were or colonized CTX-M-15-producing Enterobacter cloacae. All seven patients had underlying medical conditions, and five them treated successfully with meropenem, whilst one untreated patient died. Paediatric infections caused multidrug-resistant ESBL-producing cloacae constitute critical clinical epidemiological issue.
