:This study investigated whether luteinizing hormone receptor (LHR) expression varies in the granulosa cells of individual follicles according to maturation stage oocytes harvested for assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment. We observed minimal no LHR mRNA and protein cumulus surrounding arrested germinal vesicle (GV) stage. Interestingly, their ability mature was confirmed by rescue vitro maturation, suggesting somatic cell deficiency as a key factor retrieval GV ART procedures.
Information about pan-genotypic treatments for hepatitis in Portugal is scarce. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of glecaprevir plus pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB) treatment C virus (HCV) infection real-world clinical practice.
Direct-acting antivirals (DAA) have revolutionized hepatitis C treatment, with high sustained virological response (SVR) rates reported, even in historically difficult-to-treat groups. SVR is associated a decreased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), need for transplantation, and overall liver-related mortality. Data from real-life cohorts on the medium- to long-term outcomes patients advanced liver disease DAA-induced are still missing. To report analyze cohort disease. In this...
The impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the liver and possibility chronic disease (CLD) as a risk factor for COVID-19 severity is not fully understood. Our goal was to describe clinical outcomes inpatients regarding presence abnormal tests CLD.A retrospective analysis patients with infection, hospitalized in tertiary center Portugal, performed. Studied were hospitalization length, severity, admission intensive care unit (ICU) mortality, analyzed by CLD.We included 317 mean age 70.4 years,...
Dear Editor, We report a case of 30-year-old woman with an 8-year diagnosis eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) treated swallowed fluticasone propionate throughout this period. She presented to the emergency room two-day history severe odynophagia, aphagia, retrosternal pain, and fever. The patient was febrile hemodynamically stable, no visible oropharyngeal lesions. elevated C-reactive protein (37 mg/L). An esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed, which revealed white plaque-like lesions...
Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Psoriasis are chronic inflammatory diseases that share common genotype, clinical course, immunological features, although its relationship is still unclear. We report a 34-year-old woman with ileal Crohn's disease diagnosed 14 years ago, the development of extensive, exudative scalp lesions after adalimumab therapy. Biopsies from skin were compatible vulgar psoriasis. The patient reports no personal or family history Due to persistence further worsening...
Aeromonas are Gram-negative rods known to cause a spectrum of diseases. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic complex condition resulting from interaction multiple factors. infection in association with IBD still largely unknown. We aim look for the significance and significant differences between non-IBD patients.A retrospective observational analysis was performed all patients positive stool cultures, during 10-year period, tertiary university hospital.Fifty were included, 56%...
Non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB) is an important healthcare problem whose epidemiology and outcomes have been changing throughout the years. The main goal of this study was to characterize current demographics, etiologies, risk factors NVUGIB.Analysis clinical, endoscopic, outcome data from patients who were admitted for NVUGIB between January 2016 2019 in emergency department a tertiary hospital center.A total 522 included, with median age 71 years, mainly men, multiple...
Persons with haemophilia (PWH) used to represent a population high prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection due the use contaminated blood products. Although goals antiviral therapy are same as general population, long real-life follow-up data regarding their outcomes still scarce. Our aim was report HCV and results in PWH.A retrospective analysis performed single-centre cohort PWH positive antibody. Outcomes registered were rate spontaneous clearance HCV, sustained virologic response...
Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis is associated with gastrointestinal symptoms which can have a negative impact on quality of life [1], gastroparesis being frequent complication familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (FAP) [2]. Interventions that target while liver transplantation awaited be the utmost importance for improvement nutritional status and optimization surgical outcomes. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) has been described as safe high technical clinical success rates,...
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has been recognised over the past decade as an emerging disease. Immunosuppressed patients can develop chronic HEV infection, with level of immunosuppression determining clinical course infection. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) frequently receive immunosuppressant agents, but risk developing not extensively accessed in this group patients. Seroprevalence developed countries is variable reported prevalence portuguese general population being 19.9%. The aim...
Abstract Background Crohn’s Disease (CD) is a transmural inflammatory disease with the possibility of pan-gastrointestinal involvement that could lead in 10–30% cases to spontaneous intra-abdominal abscesses (SIAP). Their management multidisciplinary and personalised. Our goal was describe acute SIAP our centre, as well recurrence rate abscess need elective surgery. Methods We retrospectively reviewed medical records CD patients who have been admitted for between April 2009 August 2017....
A 51-year-old woman, clinically diagnosed with Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), showed abnormalities in liver enzymes, high ferritin and transferrin saturation levels, ultrasonographic features of chronic disease, addition to skin hyperpigmentation. Genetic testing confirmed the clinical hypothesis hereditary hemochromatosis (HH). Due known proximity HFE (6p22.2) POLH (6p21.1) genes, accountable for HH XP-V variant, respectively, a genetic test was offered rare variant gene identified. We report...
A 50-year-old man with liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma was admitted because of cholangitis and choledocholithiasis. He underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) sphincterotomy, stone extraction a 10Frx12cm straight plastic stent inserted due to doubt about completeness removal. On D7 after ERCP, he maintained fever hyperbilirubinemia. Computed tomography revealed distal biliary migration duodenal perforation. Endoscopy performed. The extracted foreign body...
Aims Colonoscopy allows identification and removal of premalignant polyps. With this study, we aimed to assess the current polypectomy practice patterns among Portuguese endoscopists verify if they followed European guidelines for colorectal polypectomy.
Endoscopic management of residual adenomas can be technically difficult. Among different options, hybrid Mucosal Resection (EMR) offers a compromise between standard EMR and Submucosal Dissection (ESD). We present 2 cases colorectal to address fibrotic adenomas. Circumferential incision the lesion was made with tip snare followed by partial submucosal dissection knife finally piecemeal EMR. highlight relevance complying scheduled follow-ups/surveillance importance careful good quality post...
Abstract Background Aeromonas genus consists of gram-negative rods known to cause a spectrum diseases in humans. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic complex condition where multiple factors contribute its development and progression. The association infection with IBD manifestation have been proposed by other authors still largely unknown. We aim look for the significance significant differences between non-IBD patients. Methods A retrospective observational data retrieval...
