Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease, characterized by progressive loss of spinal and cortical motor neurons, leading to muscular atrophy, respiratory failure, ultimately death. There no known cure, the clinical benefit two drugs approved treat ALS remains unclear. Novel disease-modifying therapeutics that are able modulate disease course desperately needed. Our objective was evaluate efficacy tolerability Elysium Health's candidate drug EH301 in...
In a 3-year prospective randomized trial, the prognostic value of osteoporosis in terms predicting healing complications due to implant failures or loss fracture reduction has been studied 113 patients with inter-trochanteric hip fractures treated either sliding screwplate Ender nailing. According Barnet and Nordin's index, 66 were considered have moderate severe osteoporosis. There no differences between without as regards number collapse varus > 10 degrees, redislocation mm, compression...
8007 Background: The multinational, randomized, phase III FLEX study compared cisplatin/vinorelbine (CT) plus the EGFR- antibody, cetuximab (Erbitux), with CT alone in 1st-line treatment of patients (pts) advanced EGFR-expressing NSCLC and demonstrated a statistically significant OS benefit for combination. We hypothesized that KRAS mutation status is predictive efficacy enables optimal use cetuximab. relationship between early-onset acne-like rash (ie developed ≤21 days initiation) time pts...
All traumatic and overuse injuries occurring during an average period of 4 years (2002/09) in a group 51 currently active road top-level cyclists were retrospectively registered through clinical interviews. Average age was 25.8 years. training competition 28.3 ± 2.4 h week. Only 8 (15.6%) completely free from lesions the study. The remaining 43 suffered total 112 lesions; however, 9 out these unrelated to their cycling practice. These 103 cycling-related include 50 (48.5%) 53 (51.5%)...
The outcome of 150 patients with herniated lumbar disc treated by either microsurgical or standard discectomy were retrospectively reviewed after an average 3 years. Both techniques provided satisfactory results, 85 percent good excellent outcome. Microsurgery gave less intraoperative bleeding, shorter hospitalization, and more rapid return to work. main drawback was a higher recurrence rate prolapse.
In Brief Study Design. Cross-sectional study with level III of evidence. Objective. To describe different anthropometric and body composition parameters adolescent girls idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), comparing them the standards a healthy age-matched population. Summary Background Data. Body growth development AIS seems to differ from subjects, especially at perpubertal stages. Young scoliotic adults have been found be taller, lighter, thinner than profile taken measurements skin-fold...
A consecutive series of 34 patients with femoral neck fractures was included in a prospective study aimed at evaluating preoperative variations intracapsular pressure after changes hip position, traction, and aspiration hemarthrosis their influence on the development head necrosis. Patients were observed for 7 years surgery. Before aspiration, mean antalgic physiologic position 44.4 mm Hg. There no differences between displaced undisplaced fractures. The maximum (mean value, 124.8 Hg)...
Different anatomic parameters were measured on radiographs of the healthy hip 47 patients with unilateral slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). Data compared those from 36 hips 23 adolescents matched in age, weight, and stature. During 5 years follow-up, eight SCFE developed slippage contralateral side. Patients had a lower physis-diaphysis angle larger physeal sloping AP view than controls, reflecting more vertical orientation physis. In axial view, control mean value posterior physis...
Objective: To describe the immediate effects of ischemic compression (IC) as a trigger point therapy in case patient with neck pain. The application IC is safe and effective method to successfully treat elicited myofascial points. The purpose this deliberate blockage blood area order increase local flow. This washes away waste products, supplies necessary oxygen helps affected tissue heal.In study, we treated 27-year-old female medical report pain for at least four months. The physical...
Transphyseal techniques are the most commonly used for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in children. To mitigate risk of growth disturbance, tunnels should be positioned as vertically and centrally possible relation to physis, potentially compromising anatomic orientation graft and, therefore, its isometry. A rupture is frequent this age group. Even though all-epiphyseal have not clearly demonstrated better isometry, authors propose an epiphyseal technique that aims favorable...
Summary A 5-year retrospective study of 150 patients operated on for lumbar disc herniation was conducted to evaluate the prognostic significance several clinical variables in outcome. Patients with a clear herniated as diagnosed by computed tomography and/or myelography were after failed conservative treatment. Excellent outcome defined complete relief complaints and neurological deficits. Mean follow-up period comprises 4 years; range, 2–6. At review, an excellent obtained 73 (49%)....
