Migration/invasion is involved in the multiple steps of metastasis, resulting a poor prognosis breast cancer. (−)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) green tea inhibits metastasis some cancer cell lines. Cell migration/invasion assays using Boyden chambers demonstrated that (−)-epigallocatechin (EGC), another catechin, inhibited heregulin-β1 (HRG)-induced MCF-7 human carcinoma cells to approximately same extent as EGCG. Assays cytoskeletal reorganization, Western blotting and...

We compared anti-proliferative activities of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and (EGC) against HCT116 colorectal carcinoma cells. These catechins inhibited cell growth to nearly the same extent at low confluency in plates. However, their inhibitory effect grew weaker as confluence increased, this tendency was more conspicuous for EGC than EGCG. Both EGCG activated phosphorylation major MAPKs, ERK, JNK, p38, cells many other established human cancer though different extents. Cell cycle...

Microwaves have been used in various cancer therapies to generate heat and increase tumor cell temperature; however, their use is limited by side-effects normal cells the acquisition of resistance. We previously developed a microwave irradiation method that kills cultured cells, including human promyelomonocytic leukemia (HL-60) line, maintaining cellular temperature 37 °C during treatment. In present study, we investigated mechanisms underlying HL-60 death this The microwave-irradiated...

The effects of intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection bovine beta-casomorphin-5 (beta-CM-5: Tyr-Pro-Phe-Pro-Gly), a micro-opioid agonist derived from milk beta-casein, on step-down type passive avoidance tasks were investigated in mice. Intracerebroventricular administration high dose (10 microg) beta-CM-5 produced significant decrease latency. beta-Funaltrexamine (5 microg, i.c.v.) almost completely reversed the beta-CM-5-induced shortening latency, although neither naltrindole ng, nor...

Abstract We investigated the effects of microwave irradiation under normothermic conditions on cultured cells. For this study, we developed an system constituted with semiconductor oscillator (2.45 GHz) and thermos-regulatory applicator, which could irradiate microwaves at varied output powers to maintain temperature cells 37 °C. Seven out eight types were killed by irradiation, where four not affected thermal treatment 42.5 Since dielectric properties such as ε’, ε” tanδ showed similar...

We previously reported that MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells, which are breast cancer cell lines have cancer-initiating cells (CICs), were killed following normothermic microwave irradiation in the cellular temperature was maintained at 37°C. In this study, we investigated percentages of live or dead among CD44+/CD24- defined as CICs other types response to irradiation. killed, thereby decreasing number whereas increased Moreover, adhesion, invasion, migration decreased activation matrix...

Most enzymes act on more than a single substrate. There is frequently need to block the production of pathogenic outcome enzymatic activity substrate but avoid blocking others its catalytic actions. Full might cause severe side effects because some products that catalysis may be vital. Substrate selectivity required not possible achieve by residues an enzyme. That basis for "Substrate Selective Inhibitors" (SSI), and there are several molecules characterized as SSI. However, none have yet...

Endogenous opioid peptides and opiate drugs are known to affect the development of nervous system. beta-Casomorphins (beta-CMs) belong a family exogenous derived from milk protein beta-casein by proteolytic fragmentation. We investigated effects various fragments analogues beta-CM on neurite outgrowth in Neuro-2a mouse neuroblastoma cells. The beta-CM-5 -9 amide stimulated outgrowth. Fragments shorter than (beta-CM-3, -4, beta-CM-4 amide) longer beta-CM-9 (beta-CM-13 -21) had no effects....
