The Dutch national open database on COVID-19 has been incrementally expanded since its start 30 April 2020 and now includes datasets symptoms, tests performed, individual-level positive cases deaths, deaths among vulnerable populations, settings of transmission, hospital ICU admissions, SARS-CoV-2 variants, viral loads in sewage, vaccinations the effective reproduction number. This data is collected by municipal health services, laboratories, hospitals, sewage treatment plants, vaccination...

ABSTRACT Background Vaccination is a key measure in influenza control, yet global coverage rates remain low, although previous research reported an increase vaccination (VCR) after the onset of COVID‐19 pandemic. This study aims to assess whether these changes were sustained over time by analyzing VCR trends from 2012 2023 countries included FluCov project. Methods Data on for different age and risk groups extracted national health organizations international sources For older adults,...

This study aimed to establish a Severity Scale for influenza and other acute respiratory infections (ARI), requiring hospitalization, surveillance research purposes (the SevScale). Such scale could aid the interpretation of data gathered from disparate settings. facilitate pooled analyses linking viral genetic sequencing clinical severity, bringing insights inform vaccine strain selection process. We used subset Global Influenza Hospital Surveillance Network database, including different...

Abstract The impact of COVID-19 on population health is recognised as being substantial, yet few studies have attempted to quantify what extent infection causes mild or moderate symptoms only, requires hospital and/or ICU admission, results in prolonged and chronic illness, leads premature death. We aimed the total disease burden acute Netherlands 2020 using disability-adjusted life-years (DALY) measure, investigate how varies between age-groups occupations. Using standard methods diverse...

Abstract Introduction Early after the start of COVID-19 pandemic, a major drop in number influenza B/Yamagata detections was observed globally. Given potential public health implications, particularly with regards to vaccination, we conducted systematic review virus circulation data from multiple complementary sources information. Methods We searched articles published until 20 th March 2023 PubMed and EMBASE; examined epidemiological virological for 2020-2023 contained publicly available...

Ghana introduced capitation payment under National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), beginning with pilot in the Ashanti region, 2012 a key objective of controlling utilization and related cost. This study sought to analyse claims expenditure data before after introduction policy understand whether intended was achieved. The cross-sectional, using non-equivalent pre-test post-test control group design. We did trend analysis, comparing from three administrative regions Ghana, one being an...

The COVID-19 pandemic and related preventive measures reduced influenza virus circulation, notably causing the disappearance of B/Yamagata lineage viruses. In this Perspective, we discuss implications that development may have for global epidemiology, adjustments need to be implemented concerning surveillance strategies practices, laboratory safety protocols, vaccine formulations. might indeed alter dynamics disease burden (although in a way is difficult predict at moment), associated...

Abstract We analysed the influenza epidemic that occurred in Australia during 2022 winter using an age‐structured dynamic transmission model, which accounts for past epidemics to estimate population susceptibility infection. applied same model five European countries. Our analysis suggests Europe might experience early and moderately large epidemic. Also, differences may arise between countries, with Germany Spain experiencing larger epidemics, than France, Italy United Kingdom, especially children.

Abstract Background Alternative data sources for surveillance have gained importance in maintaining coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situational awareness as nationwide testing has drastically decreased. Therefore, we explored whether rates of sick-leave from work are associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) notification trends and at which lag, to indicate the usefulness COVID-19 surveillance. Methods We during epidemic weekly SARS-CoV-2 1 June 2020 10 April 2022....
