Introduction Rigid bronchoscopy was traditionally performed in the management of foreign-body aspiration (FBA). More recently, since development a less invasive method, flexible has been proposed some centers for FBA. For past few years, we have applied decisional algorithm, privileging diagnosis and, cases, extraction foreign body (FB). Our aims are first to analyze our current FBA and second examine bronchoscopic findings complications. Materials Methods Retrospective medical chart review...

Background Pectus excavatum (PE) and pectus carinatum (PC) have generally been considered an aesthetic issue, although there is growing evidence of associated cardiopulmonary function (CPF) impairment, especially in PE patients. The study goal was to determine any correlation between malformations symptoms based on systematic assessment CPF thoracic measurements, such as Haller Index (HI) sternal torsion angle (STA). Methods Data from 76 adolescent patients with (n=30) or PC (n=46) were...

Objective: To report early blood exchange transfusion in malignant pertussis and a favorable clinical outcome. Setting: A pediatric intensive care unit tertiary hospital Geneva, Switzerland. Design: descriptive case report. Patient: An 8-wk-old girl was diagnosed with (extreme leukocytosis, seizures, pneumonia, secondary severe hypoxic respiratory failure associated pulmonary hypertension). After administration of one-volume transfusion, rapid decrease white cell count (from 119,000/mm3 to...

Our institution's gentamicin dosing and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) practices for newborns were suspected to be very heterogeneous. Once-daily (ODD) or extended-interval (EID) trough concentration measurement recommended. Clinical decision support guidelines developed implemented as clinical in the computerized prescriber order entry system. Impact on dosing, TDM practices, blood sampling evaluated.A 1-year retrospective historically controlled study before (April 2008-March 2009)...

The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) in children referred for sleep-disordered breathing reaches up to 59%. We aimed test the adequacy a questionnaire compared home respiratory polygraphy (HRP), 45 subjects (5–16 years-old), without maxillofacial malformations nor other comorbidities, presenting with symptoms compatible OSAS. All passed 12-items (Obstructive Airway Child test: OACT) and HRP. OSAS was classified severity according apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). With HRP, 60%...

Legionella infections are uncommon in childhood. We report the case of an infant who developed multiple pulmonary abscesses caused by pneumophila after receiving prolonged corticosteroid treatment severe croup. Diagnosis was not suspected because immunosuppression initially considered. Caution should be used when prolonging high-dose corticosteroids children with respiratory diseases.

Patients with absent pulmonary valve syndrome often present early airway compression from aneurysmal arteries. This study reviews our experience in managing later presenting children, and techniques used for compression. This is a retrospective chart review of all patients who underwent repair 2000 to 2012 at institution. The primary endpoints were post-operative bronchoscopic clinical evidence persistent need reinterventions on the arteries.A total 19 included during period. mean age was...

This short report describes respiratory indices of polygraphies (PG) performed to investigate several sleep-related disorders breathing in children. It refers the work Michelet et al., Successful home polygraphy sleep-disordered children, Sleep Medicine [1]. Indications for PGs were grouped according 6 categories: craniofacial malformation, neuromuscular disease, obesity, suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), prematurity, and other. The reported data concern initial interpretable (N =...

It is known that children and adolescents with obesity are more prone to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) their lung function may show some disturbance. Literature scarce about potential associations; therefore, we aimed study the relationship between OSAS, function, adiposity in a population of suspected OSAS. Material Methods. We performed home respiratory polygraphy spirometry all subjects. The relationships body mass index z-score (zBMI), polygraphy, data were analyzed.We...

<h3>Background</h3> Delivering infusions in paediatric and neonatal intensive care units (PICU/NICU) is a high-risk process. In our institution, IV drugs are prepared on weight-based equation (rule of 6), which standardises infusion rates by varying the concentration active ingredient. Transition to standardised concentrations (StdC) smart pumps advised USA reduce risks preparation errors. <h3>Purpose</h3> To conduct European survey assess current administration practices PICU/NICU, as well...
