The strain A mouse has a high incidence of spontaneous lung tumors and is susceptible to tumor induction by chemical carcinogens. By utilizing transfection assay, Southern blot analysis, DNA amplification techniques, we have detected an activated Ki-ras gene in the DNAs both spontaneously occurring chemically induced mice. point mutations were codon 12 (60%) 61 (30%). In contrast, 100% methylnitrosourea-induced 93% genes benzo[a]pyrene-induced 12, whereas 90% ethyl carbamate-induced 61....

Abstract This study examined the effects of lyophilized black raspberries (BRB) on azoxymethane (AOM)-induced aberrant crypt foci (ACF), colon tumors, and urinary 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels in male Fischer 344 rats. AOM was injected (15 mg/kg body wt ip) once per week for 2 wk. At 24 h after final injection, AOM-treated rats began consuming diets containing 0%, 2.5%, 5%, or 10% (wt/wt) BRB. Vehicle controls received 5% BRB diet only. Rats were sacrificed 9 33 wk feeding ACF...

Diets containing freeze-dried black raspberries (BRB) suppress the development of N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA)-induced tumors in rat esophagus. Using bioassay-directed fractionation, anthocyanins BRB were found to be most active constituents for down-regulation carcinogen-induced nuclear factor-kappaB and activator protein-1 expression mouse epidermal cells vitro. The present study was undertaken, therefore, determine if contribute chemopreventive activity vivo. F344 rats consumed diets...

The purpose of this study was to (a) examine the concurrent validity Dynamic Indicators Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) with Comprehensive Test Phonological Processing (CTOPP), and (b) explore diagnostic accuracy DIBELS in predicting CTOPP performance using suggested alternative cut-scores. Eighty-six students were administered winter their kindergarten year. Patterns correlations between two sets measures examined decision studies conducted based on cut-scores determined as a result...

This study evaluated the effects of black raspberries (BRBs) on biomarkers tumor development in human colon and rectum including methylation relevant suppressor genes, cell proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, expression Wnt pathway genes.Biopsies adjacent normal tissues colorectal adenocarcinomas were taken from 20 patients before after oral consumption BRB powder (60 g/d) for 1-9 weeks. Methylation status promoter regions five genes was quantified. Protein DNA methyltransferase 1...

ln this report, we describe the ability of ellagic acid (EA), a phenolic compound present in number fruits and nuts, to inhibit N-nitrosobenzylmethylamnine (NEMA) twnorigenesis rat esophagus. When administered semi-purified diet at concentrations 0.4 4 glkg, EA produced significant (21–55%) decrease average NBMA-induced esophageal tumors after 20 27 weeks bioassay. FA exhibited inhibitory effects toward preneoplastic lesions as well neoplastic lesions. Tumors were not observed...

Abstract Laboratory research involving berries is a promising example of food-based cancer prevention. Berries contain many known chemopreventive agents such as anthocyanins and ellagitannins that can be greatly concentrated in freeze-dried berry powders. Based on our program research, this commentary presents the first reported stepwise scheme for preclinical clinical development foodstuffs Our work within includes approaches assessing potential powder extracts model systems, determining...

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the colonic mucosa that can dramatically increase risk colon cancers. In present study, we evaluated effects dietary intervention freeze-dried black raspberries (BRB), natural food product with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory bioactivities, on severity in an experimental mouse model UC using 3% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS). C57BL/6J mice were fed either control diet or containing BRB (5 10%) for 7–14 days then extent injury was...

We previously reported that oral administration of black raspberry powder decreased promoter methylation tumor suppressor genes in tumors from patients with colorectal cancer. The anthocyanins (ACs) raspberries are responsible, at least part, for their cancer-inhibitory effects. In the present study, we asked if ACs responsible demethylation effects observed cancers. Three days treatment 0.5, 5, and 25 μg/ml suppressed activity protein expression DNMT1 DNMT3B HCT116, Caco2 SW480 cells....
