Large numbers of people are being discharged from hospital following COVID-19 without assessment recovery. In 384 patients (mean age 59.9 years; 62% male) followed a median 54 days post discharge, 53% reported persistent breathlessness, 34% cough and 69% fatigue. 14.6% had depression. those with elevated biomarkers, 30.1% 9.5% persistently d-dimer C reactive protein, respectively. 38% chest radiographs remained abnormal 9% deteriorating. ln this report, we describe the ability of ellagic acid (EA), a phenolic compound present in number fruits and nuts, to inhibit N-nitrosobenzylmethylamnine (NEMA) twnorigenesis rat esophagus. When administered semi-purified diet at concentrations 0.4 4 glkg, EA produced significant (21–55%) decrease average NBMA-induced esophageal tumors after 20 27 weeks bioassay. FA exhibited inhibitory effects toward preneoplastic lesions as well neoplastic lesions. Tumors were not observed...

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an evolving infectious that dramatically spread all over the world in early part of 2020. No studies have yet summarised potential severity and mortality risks caused by COVID-19 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD), we update information smokers. Methods We systematically searched electronic databases from inception to March 24, Data were extracted two independent authors accordance Preferred Reporting Items for...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) commonly co-exist. Outcomes of people living with both conditions are poor in terms symptom burden, receiving evidence-based treatment mortality. Increased understanding the underlying mechanisms may help to identify treatments relieve this disease burden. This narrative review covers overlap COPD CVD a focus on clinical presentation, mechanisms, interventions. Literature up December 2023 cited.

Rationale
Hospitalised patients with acute exacerbation of COPD may deteriorate despite treatment, early readmission being common.
Objectives
To investigate whether neural respiratory drive, measured using second intercostal space parasternal muscle electromyography (EMGpara), would identify worsening dyspnoea and physician-defined inpatient clinical deterioration, predict readmission.
Methods
Patients admitted to a single-site university hospital were...

Introduction
Patient-ventilator asynchrony (PVA) can adversely affect the successful initiation of non-invasive home mechanical ventilation (HMV). The aim this observational study was to quantify prevalence PVA during HMV and determine relationship between nocturnal gas exchange.
Method
Type frequency were measured by surface parasternal intercostal muscle electromyography, thoracoabdominal plethysmography mask pressure HMV. Severe defined, as previously, affecting ≥10%...

Current guidelines recommend that patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) are electively admitted for inpatient initiation of home non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Abstract Background Long-COVID research to date focuses on outcomes in non-hospitalised vs. hospitalised survivors. However Emergency Department attendees (post-ED) presenting with acute COVID-19 may experience less supported recovery compared people admitted and discharged from hospital (post-hospitalised group, PH). Objective We evaluated predictors of specialty care referrals (SCR) those ongoing symptomatic Long-COVID, comparing post-ED PH adults. Methods This prospective observational...
